Psalms Chapter 79
Ayo God, the haters pulled up on your turf; they totally smashed your holy temple and stacked Jerusalem like some kind of Jenga tower.
[A Psalm of Asaph.] O God, the heathen are come into thine inheritance; thy holy temple have they defiled; they have laid Jerusalem on heaps. {of: or, for}
They tossed your crew’s dead bodies to the birds, and your saints’ flesh to the wild beasts, no cap.
The dead bodies of thy servants have they given {to be} meat unto the fowls of the heaven, the flesh of thy saints unto the beasts of the earth.
Their blood flowed like water all over Jerusalem, and no one was around to give them a proper farewell.
Their blood have they shed like water round about Jerusalem; and {there was} none to bury {them}.
We’re literally a joke to our neighbors, like, they’re roasting us hard right now.
We are become a reproach to our neighbours, a scorn and derision to them that are round about us.
How long, Lord? You gonna stay salty forever? Is your jealousy gonna blaze like a savage fire?
How long, LORD? wilt thou be angry for ever? shall thy jealousy burn like fire?
Unleash your wrath on the haters who don’t even know you, and on those nations that don’t call on your name.
Pour out thy wrath upon the heathen that have not known thee, and upon the kingdoms that have not called upon thy name.
They straight-up swallowed Jacob and trashed his crib.
For they have devoured Jacob, and laid waste his dwelling place.
Please don’t hold our past screw-ups against us; show us some of that sweet mercy, we’re struggling out here.
O remember not against us former iniquities: let thy tender mercies speedily prevent us: for we are brought very low. {former...: or, the iniquities of them that were before us}
Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of your name: rescue us and wipe away our sins, all for your name’s sake.
Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of thy name: and deliver us, and purge away our sins, for thy name's sake.
Why should the haters say, 'Where’s their God?' Let them peep you flexing on the nations by avenging the blood of your servants.
Wherefore should the heathen say, Where {is} their God? let him be known among the heathen in our sight {by} the revenging of the blood of thy servants {which is} shed. {revenging: Heb. vengeance}
Let the cries of the prisoners reach you; with your power, keep those set to die safe, fr.
Let the sighing of the prisoner come before thee; according to the greatness of thy power preserve thou those that are appointed to die; {thy...: Heb. thine arm} {preserve...: Heb. reserve the children of death}
And repay our neighbors with seven times the shade they threw at you, O Lord.
And render unto our neighbours sevenfold into their bosom their reproach, wherewith they have reproached thee, O Lord.
So we, your people and the sheep of your pasture, will shout out our thanks forever: we’ll rep your praise to all generations.
So we thy people and sheep of thy pasture will give thee thanks for ever: we will shew forth thy praise to all generations. {to all...: Heb. to generation and generation}
