Psalms Chapter 78
Ayy fam, peep my words; really tune in to what I’m spitting, fr.
[Maschil of Asaph.] Give ear, O my people, {to} my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth. {Maschil...: or, A Psalm for Asaph to give instruction}
I’m about to hit y’all with some parables; gonna drop some classic wisdom, no cap.
I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old:
This ain't new; our fam has been passing it down, no question.
Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us.
We’re not hiding this from the kiddos; we gotta show the next gen how fire God is and all the epic things He’s done.
We will not hide {them} from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done.
He set up a testimony in Jacob and laid down the rules in Israel, telling our folks to pass it to the youth, bet.
For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children:
So the future squad can peep it too, even the little ones who haven’t been born yet; they gotta grow up and share it with their crew.
That the generation to come might know {them, even} the children {which} should be born; {who} should arise and declare {them} to their children:
So they can trust in God and not forget His slick moves, but stay true to His commandments.
That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments:
And we don’t want them to be like their parents, all stubborn and wild; we need a generation vibing right with God.
And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation {that} set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not stedfast with God. {that...: Heb. that prepared not their heart}
The crew from Ephraim, all geared up and ready to roll, straight dipped when the battle kicked off.
The children of Ephraim, {being} armed, {and} carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle. {carrying: Heb. throwing forth}
They didn’t keep it 100 with God’s covenant and totally ignored His law; that’s hella sus.
They kept not the covenant of God, and refused to walk in his law;
They really forgot about all the epic stuff God did for them. Like, sus vibes.
And forgat his works, and his wonders that he had shewed them.
He pulled some wild miracles right in front of their fam, straight in Egypt, in Zoan.
Marvellous things did he in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, {in} the field of Zoan.
He split the sea like it was easy, and they walked through while the water was stacked up. Goated move.
He divided the sea, and caused them to pass through; and he made the waters to stand as an heap.
During the day, he rolled with them in a cloud, and at night, he lit it up with fire. No cap.
In the daytime also he led them with a cloud, and all the night with a light of fire.
He smashed rocks in the desert and hooked them up with water like it was flowing from deep down.
He clave the rocks in the wilderness, and gave {them} drink as {out of} the great depths.
Streams burst from the rock, like rivers just vibing everywhere. Bussin'.
He brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers.
But they kept tripping, getting all savage with the Most High in the wild.
And they sinned yet more against him by provoking the most High in the wilderness.
They lowkey tested God in their hearts, demanding food to satisfy their cravings.
And they tempted God in their heart by asking meat for their lust.
For real, they were talking smack about God, like, "Can God set a table out here in the wild?"
Yea, they spake against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness? {furnish: Heb. order}
Check it, he hit the rock and water gushed out; streams were overflowing. Like, can he also drop bread and meat for his crew?
Behold, he smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people?
So the Lord saw this and got mad, lit fire against Jacob, and was like, "Nah" to Israel.
Therefore the LORD heard {this}, and was wroth: so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up against Israel;
'Cause they weren't vibing with God and didn’t trust His salvation.
Because they believed not in God, and trusted not in his salvation:
Even though He was flexing by commanding clouds and opening heaven's doors,
Though he had commanded the clouds from above, and opened the doors of heaven,
He rained down manna for them to snack on, and gave them that heavenly corn.
And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven.
People were munching on angel food, no cap; He sent them meat until they were stuffed.
Man did eat angels' food: he sent them meat to the full. {Man...: or, Every one did eat the bread of the mighty}
He made an east wind blow from the sky, and with His power, He brought in the south wind.
He caused an east wind to blow in the heaven: and by his power he brought in the south wind. {to blow: Heb. to go}
He rained down meat like it was dust, and birds like the sand on the beach:
He rained flesh also upon them as dust, and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea: {feathered...: Heb. fowl of wing}
And it fell right in their camp, all around their spots.
And he let {it} fall in the midst of their camp, round about their habitations.
So they feasted and were stuffed, 'cause He gave them what they wanted;
So they did eat, and were well filled: for he gave them their own desire;
They weren't holding back on their cravings. But while they were still chewing on the meat,
They were not estranged from their lust. But while their meat {was} yet in their mouths,
God's wrath hit hard, taking out the strongest among them, and straight-up smiting the chosen ones of Israel.
The wrath of God came upon them, and slew the fattest of them, and smote down the chosen {men} of Israel. {smote...: Heb. made to bow} {Chosen...: or, young men}
Even after all that, they still messed up and didn’t vibe with His amazing works.
For all this they sinned still, and believed not for his wondrous works.
So, He wasted their days on drama and their years on struggle, no cap.
Therefore their days did he consume in vanity, and their years in trouble.
When He pulled them out, they finally sought Him and were like, "Where’s God at?"
When he slew them, then they sought him: and they returned and enquired early after God.
They remembered God was their rock, the ultimate high-key savior.
And they remembered that God {was} their rock, and the high God their redeemer.
But still, they were out here hyping Him up with their mouths, lying with their words, hella sus.
Nevertheless they did flatter him with their mouth, and they lied unto him with their tongues.
Their hearts weren’t right with Him, and they weren’t loyal to His pact.
For their heart was not right with him, neither were they stedfast in his covenant.
But He was filled with compassion, forgave their mess-ups, and didn’t wipe them out: for real, He held back His anger a ton.
But he, {being} full of compassion, forgave {their} iniquity, and destroyed {them} not: yea, many a time turned he his anger away, and did not stir up all his wrath.
He remembered they were just human; like a breeze that blows by and doesn’t return.
For he remembered that they {were but} flesh; a wind that passeth away, and cometh not again.
Like, how often did they test Him in the wild and make Him feel some type of way in the desert?
How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness, {and} grieve him in the desert! {provoke: or, rebel against}
Fr, they bounced back and tested God, putting limits on the Holy One of Israel.
Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.
They totally forgot His moves, like the day He saved them from their enemies.
They remembered not his hand, {nor} the day when he delivered them from the enemy. {from...: or, from affliction}
How He flexed His signs in Egypt and showed off wonders in Zoan, no cap.
How he had wrought his signs in Egypt, and his wonders in the field of Zoan: {wrought: Heb. set}
He turned their rivers into blood; their floods were so sus, they couldn’t even sip.
And had turned their rivers into blood; and their floods, that they could not drink.
He sent all kinds of flies to snack on them, and frogs were just savage, taking them out.
He sent divers sorts of flies among them, which devoured them; and frogs, which destroyed them.
He gave their harvest to the caterpillar and their grind to the locust, straight up.
He gave also their increase unto the caterpiller, and their labour unto the locust.
He wrecked their vines with hail and froze their sycamore trees, vibes.
He destroyed their vines with hail, and their sycomore trees with frost. {destroyed: Heb. killed} {frost: or, great hailstones}
He let hail mess with their cattle and threw their flocks under hot thunderbolts, wild.
He gave up their cattle also to the hail, and their flocks to hot thunderbolts. {gave...: Heb. shut up} {hot...: or, lightnings}
He unleashed His anger, wrath, and trouble, sending evil angels to mess with them.
He cast upon them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, and indignation, and trouble, by sending evil angels {among them}.
He paved a way for His anger; He didn’t save their souls from death, just gave them up to the pestilence.
He made a way to his anger; he spared not their soul from death, but gave their life over to the pestilence; {He made...: Heb. He weighed a path} {life...: or, beasts to the murrain}
God straight-up took out all the firstborn in Egypt, like, savage move, hitting the strongholds of Ham.
And smote all the firstborn in Egypt; the chief of {their} strength in the tabernacles of Ham:
But he led his crew out like sheep, guiding them through the wild like a boss.
But made his own people to go forth like sheep, and guided them in the wilderness like a flock.
He kept them safe, no cap, while the sea just wrecked their enemies.
And he led them on safely, so that they feared not: but the sea overwhelmed their enemies. {overwhelmed: Heb. covered}
He brought them to the edge of his holy spot, this mountain he totally claimed.
And he brought them to the border of his sanctuary, {even to} this mountain, {which} his right hand had purchased.
He kicked out the outsiders in front of them, split the land for them, and set up Israel in their tents.
He cast out the heathen also before them, and divided them an inheritance by line, and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents.
But they tested the most high God, and didn’t keep it real with his commandments.
Yet they tempted and provoked the most high God, and kept not his testimonies:
They bounced back and acted sus like their fam: totally went off track like a broken bow.
But turned back, and dealt unfaithfully like their fathers: they were turned aside like a deceitful bow.
They made him mad with their high places and got him jealous with their idols.
For they provoked him to anger with their high places, and moved him to jealousy with their graven images.
When God saw this, he was furious and couldn’t stand Israel anymore.
When God heard {this}, he was wroth, and greatly abhorred Israel:
So he ghosted the tabernacle of Shiloh, the tent he set up among the peeps.
So that he forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh, the tent {which} he placed among men;
He straight-up handed over his strength and glory to the opps. Major sus vibes.
And delivered his strength into captivity, and his glory into the enemy's hand.
He let his squad get wrecked by the sword and was mad at his own people, no cap.
He gave his people over also unto the sword; and was wroth with his inheritance.
The fire took out their young bucks, and the girls weren’t even getting hitched.
The fire consumed their young men; and their maidens were not given to marriage. {given...: Heb. praised}
Their priests got taken out by the sword, and the widows were just silent, savage.
Their priests fell by the sword; and their widows made no lamentation.
Then the Lord woke up like he just had a wild dream, ready to pop off.
Then the Lord awaked as one out of sleep, {and} like a mighty man that shouteth by reason of wine.
He smacked his enemies from behind, putting them on blast forever.
And he smote his enemies in the hinder parts: he put them to a perpetual reproach.
He ghosted Joseph’s tabernacle and wasn't feeling Ephraim’s tribe, fr.
Moreover he refused the tabernacle of Joseph, and chose not the tribe of Ephraim:
But he vibed with Judah's tribe, the mount Zion he loved, periodt.
But chose the tribe of Judah, the mount Zion which he loved.
He built his sanctuary like a lit palace, solid as the earth he made forever.
And he built his sanctuary like high {palaces}, like the earth which he hath established for ever. {established: Heb. founded}
He chose David, his homie, straight outta the sheepfolds, goated move.
He chose David also his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds:
He was chillin' with the pregnant sheep, then he came through to hook up Jacob and his crew, like, that's the fam vibe.
From following the ewes great with young he brought him to feed Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance. {following: Heb. after}
So he fed them with mad heart and gave them the best guidance, no cap.
So he fed them according to the integrity of his heart; and guided them by the skilfulness of his hands.
