Luke Chapter 3
In the 15th year of Tiberius' rule, Pilate's the head honcho in Judea, Herod's got Galilee on lock, while his bro Philip's managing Iturea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias is holding it down in Abilene.
Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judaea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of Ituraea and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias the tetrarch of Abilene, {tetrarch: or, governor of four provinces}
Annas and Caiaphas were the high priests, and then God literally went to John, Zacharias' son, out in the wilderness.
Annas and Caiaphas being the high priests, the word of God came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness.
He’s out here in all the Jordan energy, preaching about turning your life around and dunking folks for their sins, no cap.
And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins;
Just like the prophet Esaias said, "There’s a voice in the wilderness, prepare for the Lord and make those paths fire. "
As it is written in the book of the words of Esaias the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
Every valley’s about to be packed, mountains and hills are getting leveled down; the twisted paths are gonna be straightened, and the rough spots will be smoothed out, fr.
Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways {shall be} made smooth;
And all the people are gonna witness God's salvation, periodt.
And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.
He called out to the crowd coming to get baptized, "Yo, snakes, who told you to dip from the upcoming wrath?"
Then said he to the multitude that came forth to be baptized of him, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
Show me some legit fruits of repentance and don’t flex like you’re straight just because Abraham’s your pops; God can whip up kids from these stones, bet.
Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to {our} father: for I say unto you, That God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. {worthy of: or, meet for}
And look, the axe is ready at the tree roots: if you’re not dropping solid fruit, you’re gonna get chopped and tossed in the fire, no cap.
And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: every tree therefore which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
The crowd was like, "So what’s our move then?"
And the people asked him, saying, What shall we do then?
He was like, "If you’ve got two coats, share the vibe with someone who’s cold. If you’ve got food, do the same, no cap."
He answereth and saith unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise.
Then the tax collectors showed up to get baptized and were like, "Yo, Master, what’s the deal?"
Then came also publicans to be baptized, and said unto him, Master, what shall we do?
He answered, "Just don’t be sus and take more than what’s fair."
And he said unto them, Exact no more than that which is appointed you.
The soldiers asked him too, "What’s our business?" He said, "Don’t be rough or lie on anyone; just be cool with your pay."
And the soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse {any} falsely; and be content with your wages. {Do violence...: or, Put no man in fear} {wages: or, allowance}
The crowd was vibing, wondering if John was the real deal or just hype.
And as the people were in expectation, and all men mused in their hearts of John, whether he were the Christ, or not; {in expectation: or, in suspense} {mused: or, reasoned, or, debated}
John was like, "I’m just dunking you with water, but someone way more legendary is on the way; I’m not even worthy to tie his shoes. He’ll dunk you with the Holy Spirit and fire."
John answered, saying unto {them} all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire:
He’s got a fan in his hand, and he’s gonna clean house, gathering the good stuff and burning the trash with a fire that doesn’t stop.
Whose fan {is} in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and will gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable.
He also dropped a bunch of other wisdom while preaching to the crowd.
And many other things in his exhortation preached he unto the people.
But Herod was feeling the pressure from him for marrying his brother’s wife and all the shady stuff he was into.
But Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him for Herodias his brother Philip's wife, and for all the evils which Herod had done,
On top of that, he tossed John in jail.
Added yet this above all, that he shut up John in prison.
So everyone got baptized, and then Jesus showed up to get baptized too, while praying, and boom, heaven opened up.
Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened,
The Holy Spirit swooped down looking like a dove, and a voice from heaven was like, "You’re my favorite Son; I’m vibing’ with you."
And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.
