Jeremiah Chapter 5
Run through the streets of Jerusalem, scope it out, and see if you can spot anyone who's actually real and looking for the truth; I’ll totally let it slide.
Run ye to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in the broad places thereof, if ye can find a man, if there be {any} that executeth judgment, that seeketh the truth; and I will pardon it.
They’re out here claiming, "The Lord’s alive," but we know that’s straight cap.
And though they say, The LORD liveth; surely they swear falsely.
Yo Lord, aren’t you seeing the truth? You’ve called them out, but they didn’t even blink; you’ve taken them down, but they won’t hear it: their faces are tougher than stone; they just won’t come back.
O LORD, {are} not thine eyes upon the truth? thou hast stricken them, but they have not grieved; thou hast consumed them, {but} they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return.
So I’m like, for real, these folks are broke and clueless: they don’t even comprehend how the Lord rolls or what’s right with their God.
Therefore I said, Surely these {are} poor; they are foolish: for they know not the way of the LORD, {nor} the judgment of their God.
I’m about to hit up the high rollers and chat with them; they get how the Lord operates and what’s true, but these other peeps just bounced and ditched the rules.
I will get me unto the great men, and will speak unto them; for they have known the way of the LORD, {and} the judgment of their God: but these have altogether broken the yoke, {and} burst the bonds.
So a lion from the wild is gonna take them out, and a wolf at night will mess them up; a leopard’s gonna chill and scope their cities: anyone who steps out is gonna get wrecked because they’ve really messed up and turned away.
Wherefore a lion out of the forest shall slay them, {and} a wolf of the evenings shall spoil them, a leopard shall watch over their cities: every one that goeth out thence shall be torn in pieces: because their transgressions are many, {and} their backslidings are increased. {evenings: or, deserts} {are increased: Heb. are strong}
How can I let this slide? Your kids have ditched me and sworn loyalty to fake gods: I provided for them, and they went and cheated, rolling deep in the crib of the side chicks.
How shall I pardon thee for this? thy children have forsaken me, and sworn by {them that are} no gods: when I had fed them to the full, they then committed adultery, and assembled themselves by troops in the harlots' houses.
They were like well-fed horses in the morning, all neighing for their neighbor’s wife.
They were {as} fed horses in the morning: every one neighed after his neighbour's wife.
Shouldn’t I check them for this? says the Lord: and shouldn’t my soul get payback on a nation like this?
Shall I not visit for these {things}? saith the LORD: and shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?
Climb up on her walls and wreck it, but don’t overdo it: tear down her defenses; they don’t even belong to the Lord.
Go ye up upon her walls, and destroy; but make not a full end: take away her battlements; for they {are} not the LORD'S.
The squads of Israel and Judah are totally sus with me, says the Lord.
For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have dealt very treacherously against me, saith the LORD.
They’re like, “Nah, it’s not God; no evil’s coming for us, no cap.”
They have belied the LORD, and said, {It is} not he; neither shall evil come upon us; neither shall we see sword nor famine:
The prophets are just talking nonsense, and the truth ain't in them: that’s how it’s gonna go.
And the prophets shall become wind, and the word {is} not in them: thus shall it be done unto them.
So the Lord God of hosts is saying, "Since you’re talking like that, I’m about to turn my words into fire in your mouth, and this crew’s gonna be like wood, getting burned up."
Wherefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, Because ye speak this word, behold, I will make my words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them.
Yo, I’m bringing a nation from way far away on you, house of Israel, says the Lord: it’s a savage nation, ancient and all, speaking a language you don’t even understand.
Lo, I will bring a nation upon you from far, O house of Israel, saith the LORD: it {is} a mighty nation, it {is} an ancient nation, a nation whose language thou knowest not, neither understandest what they say.
Their quiver’s like an open grave, and they’re all straight-up warriors.
Their quiver {is} as an open sepulchre, they {are} all mighty men.
They’re gonna munch on your harvest and your bread that your kids should enjoy: they’ll take your flocks and herds, and they’ll wreck your cities where you thought you were safe, with the sword.
And they shall eat up thine harvest, and thy bread, {which} thy sons and thy daughters should eat: they shall eat up thy flocks and thine herds: they shall eat up thy vines and thy fig trees: they shall impoverish thy fenced cities, wherein thou trustedst, with the sword.
But for real, in those days, says the Lord, I won’t wipe you out completely.
Nevertheless in those days, saith the LORD, I will not make a full end with you.
When you’re like, “Why’s the Lord our God doing all this to us?” just know it’s because you ditched me and served other gods in your land, so you’ll end up serving strangers in a land that’s not yours.
And it shall come to pass, when ye shall say, Wherefore doeth the LORD our God all these {things} unto us? then shalt thou answer them, Like as ye have forsaken me, and served strange gods in your land, so shall ye serve strangers in a land {that is} not yours.
Spill this tea in the house of Jacob and shout it out in Judah, saying,
Declare this in the house of Jacob, and publish it in Judah, saying,
Yo, listen up, you foolish peeps with no clue; you got eyes but can’t see, ears but can’t hear, fr.
Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding; which have eyes, and see not; which have ears, and hear not: {understanding: Heb. heart}
You scared of me or nah? says the Lord. You not shook by my presence? I set the sand as the boundary for the sea, and it can’t cross that line, no cap; even when the waves are wild, they can’t break through.
Fear ye not me? saith the LORD: will ye not tremble at my presence, which have placed the sand {for} the bound of the sea by a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass it: and though the waves thereof toss themselves, yet can they not prevail; though they roar, yet can they not pass over it?
But this crew has a savage heart; they’ve flipped the script and bounced.
But this people hath a revolting and a rebellious heart; they are revolted and gone.
They don’t even say in their hearts, “Let’s fear the Lord who gives us rain in season,” like, he’s got us covered for the harvest, periodt.
Neither say they in their heart, Let us now fear the LORD our God, that giveth rain, both the former and the latter, in his season: he reserveth unto us the appointed weeks of the harvest.
Your wrongdoings have messed things up, and your sins are holding back good vibes from you.
Your iniquities have turned away these {things}, and your sins have withholden good {things} from you.
Among my peeps, there are some sus dudes; they’re out here setting traps and catching people, no joke.
For among my people are found wicked {men}: they lay wait, as he that setteth snares; they set a trap, they catch men. {they lay...: or, they pry as fowlers lie in wait}
Just like a cage is full of birds, their homes are packed with lies; they’re getting rich and living large.
As a cage is full of birds, so {are} their houses full of deceit: therefore they are become great, and waxen rich. {cage: or, coop}
They’ve gotten all fat and shiny, like, they’re out here doing worse than the wicked; they don’t care about the fatherless, yet they’re thriving, and they ignore the rights of the needy.
They are waxen fat, they shine: yea, they overpass the deeds of the wicked: they judge not the cause, the cause of the fatherless, yet they prosper; and the right of the needy do they not judge.
Am I not gonna check for these things? says the Lord. Is my soul not gonna get back at a nation like this?
Shall I not visit for these {things}? saith the LORD: shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?
A wild and crazy thing is happening in the land;
A wonderful and horrible thing is committed in the land; {A wonderful...: or, Astonishment and filthiness}
The prophets be capping, and the priests flex their power; my people are totally vibing with it: so what’s the plan when it all goes down?
The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love {to have it} so: and what will ye do in the end thereof? {bear...: or, take into their hands}
