James Chapter 4
So where do all these beefs come from? They're just your desires butting heads, no cap.
From whence {come} wars and fightings among you? {come they} not hence, {even} of your lusts that war in your members? {fightings: or, brawlings} {lusts: or, pleasures}
You’re out here wanting things but can’t snag them; you’re killing the vibe, reaching for what ain’t yours, and still coming up empty-handed.
Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.
You ask for stuff but don’t receive it 'cause you’re asking for the wrong reasons, just to satisfy your cravings.
Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume {it} upon your lusts. {lusts: or, pleasures}
Yo, you players, don’t you realize that being tight with the world means you’re not tight with God? If you roll with the world, you’re low-key against God.
Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
Think the scripture’s just joking? Nah, the spirit inside us gets seriously jealous, fr.
Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy? {to envy: or, enviously?}
But God’s got mad grace to spare. He’s all about the humble, but the boastful? Nah, he’s not feeling that.
But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
So, vibe with God, resist the devil, and he’ll dip, periodt.
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Get tight with God, and He’ll get tight with you. Clean up your act, sinners; fix your hearts, you two-faced peeps.
Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse {your} hands, {ye} sinners; and purify {your} hearts, {ye} double minded.
Feel your emotions, let it out; turn that laughter into tears and joy into a heavy heart.
Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and {your} joy to heaviness.
Stay humble before the Lord, and He’ll lift you up, no cap.
Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
Don’t be throwing shade at each other, fam. If you’re judging your homie, you’re judging the law too, and that’s sus.
Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of {his} brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.
There's only one lawgiver who can save or wreck things; who do you think you are, judging others?
There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?
Yo, you out here saying you’ll roll into the city tomorrow and make bank? Chill.
Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:
You don't even know what tomorrow’s got in store. Life’s just a vapor that’s here one moment and gone the next.
Whereas ye know not what {shall be} on the morrow. For what {is} your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. {It...: or, For it is}
For real, you should say, “If the Lord’s down, we’ll do this or that.”
For that ye {ought} to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.
But now you’re just flexing, and all that boasting is straight-up evil.
But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.
So, if you know what’s good and don’t act on it, that’s on you, fam; that’s sin.
Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth {it} not, to him it is sin.
