Isaiah Chapter 42
Peep this, my dude is the one I got your back; my chosen one, vibes are on point; I dropped my spirit on him: he’s gonna bring the truth to the nations.
Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, {in whom} my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.
He’s not about to shout, flex, or make noise in the streets.
He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street.
A bruised reed? He won’t break it, and a flickering flame? He won’t snuff it out: he’s delivering truth, no cap.
A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth. {smoking: or, dimly burning} {quench: Heb. quench it}
He won’t flop or fall off; he’s setting the judgment on the earth: the islands are waiting for his rules, for real.
He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law. {discouraged: Heb. broken}
God the Lord says, he crafted the heavens and stretched 'em out; he spread the earth and all that’s in it; he gives breath to everyone living here, and spirit to those walking around.
Thus saith God the LORD, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein:
I, the Lord, called you to be righteous; I got your hand, keeping you secure, and you’re gonna be a deal for the folks, a light for the nations.
I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles;
To pop open blind eyes, bring the homies outta jail, and pull those stuck in darkness into the light.
To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, {and} them that sit in darkness out of the prison house.
I’m the Lord: that’s my name; my glory ain't for anyone else, and my praise has no room for idols.
I {am} the LORD: that {is} my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.
Check it, the old stuff is done, and I’m dropping new things: before they drop, I’m giving you the heads up.
Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.
Sing to the Lord a fresh track, and praise him from the ends of the earth, you who vibe with the sea and all that’s in it; the islands and all the people there.
Sing unto the LORD a new song, {and} his praise from the end of the earth, ye that go down to the sea, and all that is therein; the isles, and the inhabitants thereof. {all...: Heb. the fulness thereof}
Let the wild and the cities shout out, the villages where Kedar vibes: let the rock dwellers sing, let them yell from the mountain peaks.
Let the wilderness and the cities thereof lift up {their voice}, the villages {that} Kedar doth inhabit: let the inhabitants of the rock sing, let them shout from the top of the mountains.
Let them give glory to the Lord, and shout his praise in the islands.
Let them give glory unto the LORD, and declare his praise in the islands.
The Lord is about to pop off like a beast, stirring up jealousy like a warrior: he’s gonna yell, for real; he’s gonna take down his enemies.
The LORD shall go forth as a mighty man, he shall stir up jealousy like a man of war: he shall cry, yea, roar; he shall prevail against his enemies. {prevail: or, behave himself mightily}
I’ve been chillin’ for a minute; I’ve been low-key, but now I’m about to scream like a woman giving birth; I’m gonna wreck everything all at once.
I have long time holden my peace; I have been still, {and} refrained myself: {now} will I cry like a travailing woman; I will destroy and devour at once. {devour: Heb. swallow, or, sup up}
I’m making mountains and hills a hot mess, drying up all the herbs; I’ll turn rivers into islands, and dry up pools.
I will make waste mountains and hills, and dry up all their herbs; and I will make the rivers islands, and I will dry up the pools.
I’ll guide the blind on a path they don’t know; I’ll show them ways they’ve never seen: I’ll turn dark stuff into light for them, and crooked things straight. I got you and won’t ditch you.
And I will bring the blind by a way {that} they knew not; I will lead them in paths {that} they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them. {straight: Heb. into straightness}
They’ll be turned back, totally embarrassed, those who trust in idols, calling molten images, “You’re our gods.”
They shall be turned back, they shall be greatly ashamed, that trust in graven images, that say to the molten images, Ye {are} our gods.
Yo, hear me, you deaf folks; look, you blind ones, so you can peep.
Hear, ye deaf; and look, ye blind, that ye may see.
Who’s blind? My dude. Who’s deaf? My messenger I sent? Who’s as blind as the perfect one, and as blind as the Lord’s servant?
Who {is} blind, but my servant? or deaf, as my messenger {that} I sent? who {is} blind as {he that is} perfect, and blind as the LORD'S servant?
Seeing a lot, but not paying attention; opening ears, but not hearing.
Seeing many things, but thou observest not; opening the ears, but he heareth not.
The Lord is vibing with righteousness; he’ll make the law lit and honorable.
The LORD is well pleased for his righteousness' sake; he will magnify the law, and make {it} honourable. {it: or, him}
But this crew is robbed and messed up; they’re all stuck in holes, hiding in jails: they’re easy targets, and no one’s saving them; they’re spoils, and no one’s saying, “Restore.”
But this {is} a people robbed and spoiled; {they are} all of them snared in holes, and they are hid in prison houses: they are for a prey, and none delivereth; for a spoil, and none saith, Restore. {they are all...: or, in snaring all the young men of them} {for a spoil: Heb. a treading}
Who’s gonna listen to this? Who’s gonna catch what’s coming?
Who among you will give ear to this? {who} will hearken and hear for the time to come? {for...: Heb. for the after time?}
Who gave Jacob to be robbed, and Israel to the thieves? Didn’t the Lord do that, against whom we’ve messed up? They wouldn’t walk in his ways, nor obey his law.
Who gave Jacob for a spoil, and Israel to the robbers? did not the LORD, he against whom we have sinned? for they would not walk in his ways, neither were they obedient unto his law.
So he’s poured out his anger on him, and the strength of battle: it’s like a fire all around him, but he didn’t even notice; it burned him, but he didn’t care.
Therefore he hath poured upon him the fury of his anger, and the strength of battle: and it hath set him on fire round about, yet he knew not; and it burned him, yet he laid {it} not to heart.
