Hosea Chapter 7
So when I was tryna heal Israel, Ephraim's bad vibes showed up, and Samaria’s sus behavior was out there; they be lying, while the thieves just flex on them.
When I would have healed Israel, then the iniquity of Ephraim was discovered, and the wickedness of Samaria: for they commit falsehood; and the thief cometh in, {and} the troop of robbers spoileth without. {wickedness: Heb. evils} {spoileth: Heb. strippeth}
They don’t even peep that I see all their shady moves; their own actions are in their face, no cap.
And they consider not in their hearts {that} I remember all their wickedness: now their own doings have beset them about; they are before my face. {consider...: Heb. say not to}
They make the king feel solid with their wickedness, and the princes are vibing off their lies.
They make the king glad with their wickedness, and the princes with their lies.
They’re out here being unfaithful, like an oven that’s lit but chillin’ after baking the dough till it rises.
They {are} all adulterers, as an oven heated by the baker, {who} ceaseth from raising after he hath kneaded the dough, until it be leavened. {who...: or, the raiser will cease} {raising: or, waking}
On our king's day, the princes made him sick from the wine; he’s reaching out to the haters.
In the day of our king the princes have made {him} sick with bottles of wine; he stretched out his hand with scorners. {bottles...: or, heat through wine}
They prepped their hearts like an oven, lying in wait; their baker is snoozing all night, but in the morning it’s on fire.
For they have made ready their heart like an oven, whiles they lie in wait: their baker sleepeth all the night; in the morning it burneth as a flaming fire. {made...: or, applied}
They’re heated like an oven, munching on their judges; all their kings are down, and no one’s hitting me up.
They are all hot as an oven, and have devoured their judges; all their kings are fallen: {there is} none among them that calleth unto me.
Ephraim’s blending in with the crowd; he’s like a cake that didn’t flip.
Ephraim, he hath mixed himself among the people; Ephraim is a cake not turned.
Strangers are draining his strength, and he’s clueless; gray hairs popping up, but he’s still in the dark.
Strangers have devoured his strength, and he knoweth {it} not: yea, gray hairs are here and there upon him, yet he knoweth not. {here...: Heb. sprinkled}
Israel's pride is on full display, but they ain't turning back to the Lord their God or seeking Him, fr.
And the pride of Israel testifieth to his face: and they do not return to the LORD their God, nor seek him for all this.
Ephraim’s acting like a clueless dove; they’re calling out to Egypt, then running to Assyria.
Ephraim also is like a silly dove without heart: they call to Egypt, they go to Assyria.
When they bounce, I’ll throw my net on them; I’ll bring them down like birds from the sky; I’ll school them, just like their crew has heard.
When they shall go, I will spread my net upon them; I will bring them down as the fowls of the heaven; I will chastise them, as their congregation hath heard.
Woe to them! They dipped from me: destruction’s on the way! They’ve messed up against me; I redeemed them, yet they still be lying.
Woe unto them! for they have fled from me: destruction unto them! because they have transgressed against me: though I have redeemed them, yet they have spoken lies against me. {destruction: Heb. spoil}
They didn’t cry out to me from the heart when they were howling on their beds; they gather for food and drink, but they’re rebelling against me.
And they have not cried unto me with their heart, when they howled upon their beds: they assemble themselves for corn and wine, {and} they rebel against me.
Even though I’ve tied and strengthened their arms, they still be scheming against me.
Though I have bound {and} strengthened their arms, yet do they imagine mischief against me. {have...: or, chastened}
They come back, but not to the Most High; they’re like a fake bow; their princes will fall by the sword 'cause of their savage words; this will be their joke in Egypt.
They return, {but} not to the most High: they are like a deceitful bow: their princes shall fall by the sword for the rage of their tongue: this {shall be} their derision in the land of Egypt.
