Hosea Chapter 13
So when Ephraim started talking, he had all these nervous vibes, flexing in Israel; but once he tripped up with Baal, it was game over, fr.
When Ephraim spake trembling, he exalted himself in Israel; but when he offended in Baal, he died.
Now they just keep going harder into sin, crafting silver idols and making their own vibes, saying, “Ayo, let the ones who sacrifice show some love to the calves.”
And now they sin more and more, and have made them molten images of their silver, {and} idols according to their own understanding, all of it the work of the craftsmen: they say of them, Let the men that sacrifice kiss the calves. {they sin...: Heb. they add to sin} {the men...: or, the sacrificers of men}
They’ll be like a morning cloud or early dew that just fades away, like chaff blown away by the wind, or smoke from a chimney, no cap.
Therefore they shall be as the morning cloud, and as the early dew that passeth away, as the chaff {that} is driven with the whirlwind out of the floor, and as the smoke out of the chimney.
But I’m still the Lord your God from Egypt, and you better recognize there’s no god besides me; I’m the only savior, periodt.
Yet I {am} the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt, and thou shalt know no god but me: for {there is} no saviour beside me.
I knew you in the desert, in that dry, thirsty land, for real.
I did know thee in the wilderness, in the land of great drought. {great...: Heb. droughts}
They got full off what they grazed on; they got way too hyped and forgot about me, savage.
According to their pasture, so were they filled; they were filled, and their heart was exalted; therefore have they forgotten me.
So I’m rolling up on them like a lion, watching like a leopard ready to pounce.
Therefore I will be unto them as a lion: as a leopard by the way will I observe {them}:
I’ll meet them like a bear without her cubs, tearing their hearts apart like a lion would; those savage beasts gonna mess them up.
I will meet them as a bear {that is} bereaved {of her whelps}, and will rend the caul of their heart, and there will I devour them like a lion: the wild beast shall tear them. {wild...: Heb. beast of the field}
O Israel, you’ve really messed yourself up; but I got your back, that’s where your help is at.
O Israel, thou hast destroyed thyself; but in me {is} thine help. {is...: Heb. in thy help}
I’ll be your king: where’s anyone else that can save you in all your towns? Remember when you said, “Give me a king and princes?”
I will be thy king: where {is any other} that may save thee in all thy cities? and thy judges of whom thou saidst, Give me a king and princes? {I will...: rather, Where is thy king?}
I handed you a king in my anger, then took him away when I was mad.
I gave thee a king in mine anger, and took {him} away in my wrath.
Ephraim’s sin is all tied up; it’s hidden away, lowkey.
The iniquity of Ephraim {is} bound up; his sin {is} hid.
The pain of a woman giving birth is coming for him; he’s a foolish son; he shouldn’t be chilling where babies are born.
The sorrows of a travailing woman shall come upon him: he {is} an unwise son; for he should not stay long in {the place of} the breaking forth of children. {long: Heb. a time}
I’ll pull them from the grave’s grip; I’ll redeem them from death: O death, I’ll be your plagues; O grave, I’ll be your destruction; I won’t consider repentance.
I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O death, I will be thy plagues; O grave, I will be thy destruction: repentance shall be hid from mine eyes. {power: Heb. hand}
Even if he’s thriving among his people, an east wind’s about to blow; the Lord’s wind will hit from the wilderness, drying up his spring and fountain: he’ll lose all the dope treasures.
Though he be fruitful among {his} brethren, an east wind shall come, the wind of the LORD shall come up from the wilderness, and his spring shall become dry, and his fountain shall be dried up: he shall spoil the treasure of all pleasant vessels. {pleasant...: Heb. vessels of desire}
Samaria’s gonna be empty; she rebelled against her God: they’ll fall by the sword; their babies will be crushed, and pregnant women will be torn apart, no cap.
Samaria shall become desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up.
