Genesis Chapter 32
So Jacob was grinding, and then the angels popped up like, "What’s good?"
And Jacob went on his way, and the angels of God met him.
He spotted them and was like, "This crew is sent by God," naming the place Mahanaim.
And when Jacob saw them, he said, This {is} God's host: and he called the name of that place Mahanaim. {Mahanaim: that is, Two hosts, or, camps}
Jacob dispatched his squad to Esau, his bro, in the land of Seir, Edom vibes.
And Jacob sent messengers before him to Esau his brother unto the land of Seir, the country of Edom. {country: Heb. field}
He was like, "Let my dude Esau know, your boy Jacob’s been hanging with Laban, still here, no cap."
And he commanded them, saying, Thus shall ye speak unto my lord Esau; Thy servant Jacob saith thus, I have sojourned with Laban, and stayed there until now:
"I got oxen, donkeys, flocks, and servants, just tryna catch some rizz with you, fam."
And I have oxen, and asses, flocks, and menservants, and womenservants: and I have sent to tell my lord, that I may find grace in thy sight.
The messengers came back, like, "Yo, Esau’s rolling up to meet you with 400 boys."
And the messengers returned to Jacob, saying, We came to thy brother Esau, and also he cometh to meet thee, and four hundred men with him.
Jacob was shook and stressed, so he divided his crew and goods into two squads.
Then Jacob was greatly afraid and distressed: and he divided the people that {was} with him, and the flocks, and herds, and the camels, into two bands;
He said, "If Esau hits one squad, the other can bounce, periodt."
And said, If Esau come to the one company, and smite it, then the other company which is left shall escape.
Jacob prayed, "Yo, God of my dads Abraham and Isaac, you told me to come back and you’d bless me."
And Jacob said, O God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, the LORD which saidst unto me, Return unto thy country, and to thy kindred, and I will deal well with thee:
"I ain't worthy of all the solid vibes and truth you've shown me; I crossed this Jordan with just my staff, and now I'm rolling deep."
I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies, and of all the truth, which thou hast shewed unto thy servant; for with my staff I passed over this Jordan; and now I am become two bands. {I am not...: Heb. I am less than all}
Help me out from my bro Esau 'cause I'm lowkey scared he’ll come at me and my fam.
Deliver me, I pray thee, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau: for I fear him, lest he will come and smite me, {and} the mother with the children. {with: Heb. upon}
You mentioned you’d hook me up, making my fam as numerous as the sand on the shore, no cap.
And thou saidst, I will surely do thee good, and make thy seed as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude.
So he crashed there that night and prepped some gifts for Esau, his brother.
And he lodged there that same night; and took of that which came to his hand a present for Esau his brother;
Two hundred female goats, twenty male goats, two hundred ewes, and twenty rams, lit.
Two hundred she goats, and twenty he goats, two hundred ewes, and twenty rams,
Thirty milking camels with their young, forty cows, and ten bulls, plus twenty female donkeys and ten foals.
Thirty milch camels with their colts, forty kine, and ten bulls, twenty she asses, and ten foals.
He split them up for his crew, telling them to roll out ahead and keep space between the groups.
And he delivered {them} into the hand of his servants, every drove by themselves; and said unto his servants, Pass over before me, and put a space betwixt drove and drove.
He told the first squad, “When Esau meets you and asks whose you are and where you’re headed, what’s the vibe?”
And he commanded the foremost, saying, When Esau my brother meeteth thee, and asketh thee, saying, Whose {art} thou? and whither goest thou? and whose {are} these before thee?
Just say, “These gifts are for your boy Jacob; it’s a present for my dude Esau, and he’s right behind us.”
Then thou shalt say, {They be} thy servant Jacob's; it {is} a present sent unto my lord Esau: and, behold, also he {is} behind us.
Then he instructed the second and third groups, “This is how you gotta chat with Esau when you see him.”
And so commanded he the second, and the third, and all that followed the droves, saying, On this manner shall ye speak unto Esau, when ye find him.
And add, “Yo, your servant Jacob’s chilling behind us. I’m trying to vibe with him after I drop off these gifts, hoping he’ll be cool with me.”
And say ye moreover, Behold, thy servant Jacob {is} behind us. For he said, I will appease him with the present that goeth before me, and afterward I will see his face; peradventure he will accept of me. {of me: Heb. my face}
So Jacob sent the gifts ahead and chilled that night with his crew.
So went the present over before him: and himself lodged that night in the company.
Then he got up at night, took his two wives, two side girls, and his eleven sons, and crossed the Jabbok river.
And he rose up that night, and took his two wives, and his two womenservants, and his eleven sons, and passed over the ford Jabbok.
He sent them across the stream and kept whatever he had with him.
And he took them, and sent them over the brook, and sent over that he had. {sent them: Heb. caused to pass}
Jacob was solo, and a dude showed up to wrestle with him until sunrise.
And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. {breaking...: Heb. ascending of the morning}
When the guy realized he couldn’t win, he touched Jacob's hip, and it got all messed up while they were wrestling.
And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him.
The dude was like, “Let me go, dawn’s coming,” and Jacob was like, “Nah, not until you bless me.”
And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.
The dude asked him, “What’s your name?” and Jacob replied, “It’s Jacob.”
And he said unto him, What {is} thy name? And he said, Jacob.
He said, “You’re not gonna be called Jacob anymore, but Israel, 'cause you got mad rizz with God and people, and you’ve come out on top.”
And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed. {Israel: that is, A prince of God}
Jacob was like, “Yo, what’s your name?” and the dude said, “Why you trippin’ on my name?” Then he blessed him there.
And Jacob asked {him}, and said, Tell {me}, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore {is} it {that} thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there.
Jacob named the place Peniel, saying, “I saw God face to face, and I’m still here, no cap.”
And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved. {Peniel: that is, The face of God}
As he rolled past Penuel, the sun came up, and he was straight vibing on his thigh.
And as he passed over Penuel the sun rose upon him, and he halted upon his thigh.
So now, the peeps of Israel don’t munch on that sinew that got weak on the thigh, 'cause he touched Jacob's thigh where it got all sus.
Therefore the children of Israel eat not {of} the sinew which shrank, which {is} upon the hollow of the thigh, unto this day: because he touched the hollow of Jacob's thigh in the sinew that shrank.
