Amos Chapter 1
So Amos, that goat herder from Tekoa, had some serious feels about Israel while Uzziah was in charge and Jeroboam was running the show, right before that crazy earthquake went down.
The words of Amos, who was among the herdmen of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel, two years before the earthquake.
He was like, "The Lord's about to drop some serious noise from Zion, and his voice is gonna hit different in Jerusalem; the shepherds are gonna be bummed, and Carmel's gonna look all dried up, fr."
And he said, The LORD will roar from Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the habitations of the shepherds shall mourn, and the top of Carmel shall wither.
The Lord's saying, "For three mess-ups from Damascus and four, I ain't about to let them slide; they were grinding down Gilead with iron gear, no cap."
Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Damascus, and for four, I will not turn away {the punishment} thereof; because they have threshed Gilead with threshing instruments of iron: {and...: or, yea, for four} {turn...: or, convert it, or, let it be quiet}
"But I'm launching a fire at Hazael's spot, and it’s gonna obliterate Ben-hadad's mansions, periodt."
But I will send a fire into the house of Hazael, which shall devour the palaces of Benhadad.
"I'm snapping the bar of Damascus and booting out the folks from Aven, plus stripping the swag from Eden’s crew; Syria's gonna be in chains, says the Lord."
I will break also the bar of Damascus, and cut off the inhabitant from the plain of Aven, and him that holdeth the sceptre from the house of Eden: and the people of Syria shall go into captivity unto Kir, saith the LORD. {the plain...: or, Bikathaven} {the house...: or, Betheden}
"For three mess-ups from Gaza and four, I ain't holding back the heat; they took everyone prisoner and handed them over to Edom, that's sus."
Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Gaza, and for four, I will not turn away {the punishment} thereof; because they carried away captive the whole captivity, to deliver {them} up to Edom: {away captive...: or, them away with an entire}
"But I'm sending a fire to Gaza's wall, and it's gonna straight-up devour their mansions, no cap."
But I will send a fire on the wall of Gaza, which shall devour the palaces thereof:
"I’m cutting off the homies from Ashdod and snatching the scepter from Ashkelon, and I'm coming for Ekron too; the Philistines are gonna be finished, says the Lord God."
And I will cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod, and him that holdeth the sceptre from Ashkelon, and I will turn mine hand against Ekron: and the remnant of the Philistines shall perish, saith the Lord GOD.
"For three transgressions of Tyrus and four, I won't be turning away the punishment; they sold out the whole crew to Edom and forgot the bro code, fr."
Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Tyrus, and for four, I will not turn away {the punishment} thereof; because they delivered up the whole captivity to Edom, and remembered not the brotherly covenant: {the brotherly...: Heb. the covenant of brethren}
"But I'm lighting a fire on Tyrus's wall, and it's gonna consume their palaces, no cap."
But I will send a fire on the wall of Tyrus, which shall devour the palaces thereof.
"For three transgressions of Edom and four, I ain't letting that slide; he went after his bro with a sword, showed zero mercy, and kept that rage bottled up forever."
Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Edom, and for four, I will not turn away {the punishment} thereof; because he did pursue his brother with the sword, and did cast off all pity, and his anger did tear perpetually, and he kept his wrath for ever: {did cast...: Heb. corrupted his compassions}
"But I'm igniting a fire in Teman, and it's gonna wreck Bozrah's mansions."
But I will send a fire upon Teman, which shall devour the palaces of Bozrah.
"For three transgressions of Ammon's kids and four, I ain't backing down from the punishment; they tore apart pregnant women in Gilead to grab more land, savage."
Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of the children of Ammon, and for four, I will not turn away {the punishment} thereof; because they have ripped up the women with child of Gilead, that they might enlarge their border: {ripped...: or, divided the mountains}
"But I'm firing up a blaze in Rabbah's wall, and it’s gonna demolish their palaces amid the hype and chaos of battle."
But I will kindle a fire in the wall of Rabbah, and it shall devour the palaces thereof, with shouting in the day of battle, with a tempest in the day of the whirlwind:
"Their king's about to be taken captive, along with his crew, says the Lord."
And their king shall go into captivity, he and his princes together, saith the LORD.
