Acts Chapter 17
They cruised through Amphipolis and Apollonia, finally rolling up to Thessalonica, where the Jews had a synagogue, no cap.
Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where was a synagogue of the Jews:
Paul, doing his typical thing, popped in and for three sabbath days, he was dropping knowledge from the scriptures, fr.
And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,
He was breaking it down, explaining that Christ had to suffer and rise from the dead; and this Jesus I’m hyping up is the real deal.
Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ. {whom...: or, whom, said he, I preach}
Some of the folks were vibing with it, chilling with Paul and Silas; a whole crew of devout Greeks and some boss ladies were on the same wave.
And some of them believed, and consorted with Paul and Silas; and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few.
But the Jews who weren’t feeling it got mad salty, grabbed some shady dudes, and stirred up the whole town, trying to come for Jason’s spot.
But the Jews which believed not, moved with envy, took unto them certain lewd fellows of the baser sort, and gathered a company, and set all the city on an uproar, and assaulted the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people.
When they couldn’t find them, they dragged Jason and some of the squad to the city rulers, yelling, "These peeps are flipping the world upside down!"
And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also;
Jason’s got them, and they’re all going against Caesar’s rules, claiming there’s a new king, and his name is Jesus.
Whom Jason hath received: and these all do contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, {one} Jesus.
The crowd and the city rulers were freaked out when they heard all this drama.
And they troubled the people and the rulers of the city, when they heard these things.
After they got some security from Jason and the others, they let them dip.
And when they had taken security of Jason, and of the other, they let them go.
The crew quickly sent Paul and Silas out at night to Berea; when they got there, they hit up the synagogue of the Jews.
And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming {thither} went into the synagogue of the Jews.
They were way more chill than the peeps in Thessalonica, 'cause they were all about that word, ready to vibe, and they hit the scriptures daily to see what’s popping.
These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
So a bunch of them believed; even some classy Greek ladies and a good number of dudes joined the squad.
Therefore many of them believed; also of honourable women which were Greeks, and of men, not a few.
But when the Jews from Thessalonica peeped that Paul was preaching in Berea, they rolled up and stirred the crowd, no cap.
But when the Jews of Thessalonica had knowledge that the word of God was preached of Paul at Berea, they came thither also, and stirred up the people.
Then the bros sent Paul off to the sea real quick, but Silas and Timotheus were still vibing there.
And then immediately the brethren sent away Paul to go as it were to the sea: but Silas and Timotheus abode there still.
They took Paul to Athens, and told Silas and Timotheus to hurry up and meet him, then they dipped.
And they that conducted Paul brought him unto Athens: and receiving a commandment unto Silas and Timotheus for to come to him with all speed, they departed.
While Paul was waiting in Athens, he was lowkey shook when he noticed the city was all about those idols, fr.
Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry. {wholly...: or, full of idols}
So he popped off in the synagogue with the Jews and the devout peeps, and at the market daily, he was chatting it up with anyone who crossed his path.
Therefore disputed he in the synagogue with the Jews, and with the devout persons, and in the market daily with them that met with him.
Then some philosophers from the Epicureans and Stoics rolled up on him. Some were like, “What’s this dude even talking about?” Others thought he was out here preaching some wild gods, 'cause he was all about Jesus and the resurrection.
Then certain philosophers of the Epicureans, and of the Stoicks, encountered him. And some said, What will this babbler say? other some, He seemeth to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached unto them Jesus, and the resurrection. {babbler: or, base fellow}
They grabbed him and brought him to Areopagus, asking, “Yo, what’s this new doctrine you’re flexing?”
And they took him, and brought him unto Areopagus, saying, May we know what this new doctrine, whereof thou speakest, {is}? {Areopagus: or, Mars' hill: it was the highest court in Athens}
'Cause you’re dropping some sus stuff on us; we wanna know what it all means, periodt.
For thou bringest certain strange things to our ears: we would know therefore what these things mean.
All the Athenians and randoms just vibed around, either spilling tea or listening to some fresh gossip.
(For all the Athenians and strangers which were there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell, or to hear some new thing.)
Paul pulled up on Mars’ hill and was like, "Yo, Athenians, you guys are way too superstitious, fr."
Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars' hill, and said, {Ye} men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious. {Mars' hill: or, the court of the Areopagites}
I was checking out your altars, and I found one that said, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. The one you’re lowkey worshipping? I’m here to spill the truth about Him.
For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you. {devotions: or, gods that ye worship}
The God who crafted the whole world and everything in it? He’s the GOAT of heaven and earth, and He doesn’t chill in temples built by human hands.
God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;
He ain't worshipped by our hands like He needs anything; He gives life, breath, and everything, no cap.
Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;
He made all nations from one blood to vibe on this earth, setting up their times and where they live, periodt.
And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;
They should be seeking the Lord, hoping to find Him, ‘cause He ain’t far from any of us, fr.
That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:
In Him, we live, move, and exist; even your poets say we’re His offspring, that’s lit.
For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.
Since we’re the offspring of God, we shouldn’t think God is like gold, silver, or stone, made by humans, that’s sus.
Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device.
God overlooked the times when people didn’t know better, but now He’s telling everyone everywhere to repent, no cap.
And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:
God’s got a day set to judge the world, and He’s doing it through this dude He picked; He even proved it by raising Him from the dead, no cap.
Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by {that} man whom he hath ordained; {whereof} he hath given assurance unto all {men}, in that he hath raised him from the dead. {hath given...: or, offered faith}
When they heard about the whole resurrection thing, some were like, “That’s sus,” while others wanted to hear more later.
And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked: and others said, We will hear thee again of this {matter}.
So Paul just dipped from them.
So Paul departed from among them.
But some peeps stuck with him and believed, including Dionysius the Areopagite and a girl named Damaris, plus a few others.
Howbeit certain men clave unto him, and believed: among the which {was} Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.
