Psalms Chapter 83
Ayo, God, don’t just sit there quiet; speak up and make your presence felt, fr.
[A Song {or} Psalm of Asaph.] Keep not thou silence, O God: hold not thy peace, and be not still, O God. {of Asaph: or, for Asaph}
For real, your enemies are causing a ruckus, acting all tough and mighty.
For, lo, thine enemies make a tumult: and they that hate thee have lifted up the head.
They’re scheming against your crew, trying to wipe out your secret followers.
They have taken crafty counsel against thy people, and consulted against thy hidden ones.
They’re saying, “Let’s erase them as a nation; we can’t let Israel exist anymore.”
They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from {being} a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.
They’re all in this together, rallying against you, no cap.
For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee: {consent: Heb. heart}
Edom, Ishmaelites, Moab, and the Hagarenes are in the mix;
The tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagarenes;
Gebal, Ammon, Amalek, plus the Philistines hangin’ with Tyre’s gang.
Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; the Philistines with the inhabitants of Tyre;
Assur’s also linking up with them; they got Lot’s kids backing them up. Selah.
Assur also is joined with them: they have holpen the children of Lot. Selah. {holpen: Heb. been an arm to}
Handle them like you did the Midianites; like Sisera and Jabin by the Kison river.
Do unto them as {unto} the Midianites; as {to} Sisera, as {to} Jabin, at the brook of Kison:
They flopped at En-dor, turnin’ into dust for the ground.
{Which} perished at Endor: they became {as} dung for the earth.
Make their leaders like Oreb and Zeeb; all their chiefs like Zebah and Zalmunna.
Make their nobles like Oreb, and like Zeeb: yea, all their princes as Zebah, and as Zalmunna:
They said, “Let’s take God’s spots for our own.”
Who said, Let us take to ourselves the houses of God in possession.
Oh my God, make them like a wheel, just blowing away like chaff in the breeze.
O my God, make them like a wheel; as the stubble before the wind.
Like fire consuming wood and flames setting the mountains on fire;
As the fire burneth a wood, and as the flame setteth the mountains on fire;
So chase them down with your storm and scare them with your tempest.
So persecute them with thy tempest, and make them afraid with thy storm.
Smite them with shame so they’ll look for your name, O Lord.
Fill their faces with shame; that they may seek thy name, O LORD.
Let them be perplexed and troubled forever; let them be humiliated and disappear.
Let them be confounded and troubled for ever; yea, let them be put to shame, and perish:
So that folks know you, the one and only Jehovah, are the ultimate ruler over all the land.
That {men} may know that thou, whose name alone {is} JEHOVAH, {art} the most high over all the earth.
