Numbers Chapter 16
So Korah, the son of Izhar, grandson of Kohath, from Levi's fam, plus Dathan and Abiram, Eliab's boys, and On, Peleth's kid from Reuben’s squad, pulled up with some folks:
Now Korah, the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On, the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took {men}:
They came at Moses with 250 hype leaders from the crew, all known and legit in the gang:
And they rose up before Moses, with certain of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty princes of the assembly, famous in the congregation, men of renown:
They gathered against Moses and Aaron, saying, "Y'all think you're all that? Everyone’s holy here, and the Lord's with us. Why you acting all high and mighty?"
And they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron, and said unto them, {Ye take} too much upon you, seeing all the congregation {are} holy, every one of them, and the LORD {is} among them: wherefore then lift ye up yourselves above the congregation of the LORD? {Ye take...: Heb. It is much for you}
When Moses peeped this, he totally hit the ground:
And when Moses heard {it}, he fell upon his face:
He told Korah and his crew, "Tomorrow, the Lord's gonna show who’s really His and who's legit; whoever He chooses will roll up to Him."
And he spake unto Korah and unto all his company, saying, Even to morrow the LORD will shew who {are} his, and {who is} holy; and will cause {him} to come near unto him: even {him} whom he hath chosen will he cause to come near unto him.
"Check it: Take your censers, Korah, and your whole squad;
This do; Take you censers, Korah, and all his company;
Put some fire and incense in them before the Lord tomorrow: the one the Lord picks is the real deal; you guys are just vibing too hard, Levi fam."
And put fire therein, and put incense in them before the LORD to morrow: and it shall be {that} the man whom the LORD doth choose, he {shall be} holy: {ye take} too much upon you, ye sons of Levi.
Moses said to Korah, "Yo, pay attention, Levi fam:
And Moses said unto Korah, Hear, I pray you, ye sons of Levi:
You think it’s chill that the God of Israel set you apart from the squad to come closer and do His work at the tabernacle and serve the crew?"
{Seemeth it but} a small thing unto you, that the God of Israel hath separated you from the congregation of Israel, to bring you near to himself to do the service of the tabernacle of the LORD, and to stand before the congregation to minister unto them?
"He’s brought you and your Levi bros near to Him; you trying to snatch the priesthood too?"
And he hath brought thee near {to him}, and all thy brethren the sons of Levi with thee: and seek ye the priesthood also?
Y'all are wild, gathering against the Lord like that. What’s Aaron even doing here? Chill with the gossip.
For which cause {both} thou and all thy company {are} gathered together against the LORD: and what {is} Aaron, that ye murmur against him?
Moses reached out to Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and they were like, “Nah, we ain’t coming up.”
And Moses sent to call Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab: which said, We will not come up:
You really think it’s cool that you took us from a land flowing with milk and honey just to off us in the desert? You just wanna flex as our ruler?
{Is it} a small thing that thou hast brought us up out of a land that floweth with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, except thou make thyself altogether a prince over us?
Also, you didn’t even bring us into the land of milk and honey or hook us up with dope fields or vineyards. You trying to play us? We ain't coming up.
Moreover thou hast not brought us into a land that floweth with milk and honey, or given us inheritance of fields and vineyards: wilt thou put out the eyes of these men? we will not come up. {put...: Heb. bore out}
Moses was fuming and told the Lord, "Don’t even peep their offerings. I ain’t taken anything from them, and I haven’t harmed a single one."
And Moses was very wroth, and said unto the LORD, Respect not thou their offering: I have not taken one ass from them, neither have I hurt one of them.
Moses said to Korah, "You and your crew need to show up before the Lord tomorrow, you, them, and Aaron."
And Moses said unto Korah, Be thou and all thy company before the LORD, thou, and they, and Aaron, to morrow:
Grab your censers, throw in some incense, and bring them before the Lord—250 censers, plus you and Aaron, each with yours.
And take every man his censer, and put incense in them, and bring ye before the LORD every man his censer, two hundred and fifty censers; thou also, and Aaron, each {of you} his censer.
They all lit their censers, tossed in fire and incense, and stood at the tabernacle door with Moses and Aaron.
And they took every man his censer, and put fire in them, and laid incense thereon, and stood in the door of the tabernacle of the congregation with Moses and Aaron.
Korah gathered the whole crew against them at the tabernacle door, and the Lord’s glory showed up for everyone to see.
And Korah gathered all the congregation against them unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: and the glory of the LORD appeared unto all the congregation.
Then the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying,
And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,
Dip from this crew so I can handle them real quick, no cap.
Separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment.
They hit the ground and were like, "Yo God, the one who vibes with all living things, is it cool for one dude to mess up and you get mad at everyone?"
And they fell upon their faces, and said, O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and wilt thou be wroth with all the congregation?
And the Lord was like, "Moses, listen up."
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Tell the crew to bounce from the tents of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.
Speak unto the congregation, saying, Get you up from about the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.
So Moses stood up and rolled over to Dathan and Abiram, and the Israel elders were right behind him.
And Moses rose up and went unto Dathan and Abiram; and the elders of Israel followed him.
He told the congregation, "Yo, get away from these sus dudes and don’t touch their stuff, or you’ll get caught up in their mess."
And he spake unto the congregation, saying, Depart, I pray you, from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of theirs, lest ye be consumed in all their sins.
They backed off from the tents of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, and those guys came out, chilling at their tent doors with their fam.
So they gat up from the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, on every side: and Dathan and Abiram came out, and stood in the door of their tents, and their wives, and their sons, and their little children.
Moses was like, "You’ll know the Lord sent me to do this because I didn’t just make this up."
And Moses said, Hereby ye shall know that the LORD hath sent me to do all these works; for {I have} not {done them} of mine own mind.
If these dudes die like regular peeps or get the usual treatment, then the Lord didn’t send me.
If these men die the common death of all men, or if they be visited after the visitation of all men; {then} the LORD hath not sent me. {the common...: Heb. as every man dieth}
But if the Lord does something wild, like opens the ground and swallows them whole, then you’ll get it: these guys made the Lord mad.
But if the LORD make a new thing, and the earth open her mouth, and swallow them up, with all that {appertain} unto them, and they go down quick into the pit; then ye shall understand that these men have provoked the LORD. {make...: Heb. create a creature}
So after he finished dropping all these words, the ground just split like, whoa.
And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground clave asunder that {was} under them:
The earth opened wide, swallowed them whole, their cribs, and all the homies with Korah, no cap.
And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that {appertained} unto Korah, and all {their} goods.
They all went down alive into the pit, and the earth just shut back up on them: poof, gone from the squad.
They, and all that {appertained} to them, went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed upon them: and they perished from among the congregation.
All the Israelites around dipped fast at their screams, thinking, "Yo, we might get swallowed too!"
And all Israel that {were} round about them fled at the cry of them: for they said, Lest the earth swallow us up {also}.
Then fire straight up came from the Lord and toasted the 250 guys who were burning incense, savage.
And there came out a fire from the LORD, and consumed the two hundred and fifty men that offered incense.
The Lord hit up Moses and said,
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Tell Eleazar, Aaron's son, to grab the censers from the flames and spread the fire over there; they’re blessed.
Speak unto Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, that he take up the censers out of the burning, and scatter thou the fire yonder; for they are hallowed.
The censers from these sinners who messed up, make them into wide plates for the altar covering: they offered them to the Lord, so they’re blessed and a sign for the Israelites.
The censers of these sinners against their own souls, let them make them broad plates {for} a covering of the altar: for they offered them before the LORD, therefore they are hallowed: and they shall be a sign unto the children of Israel.
Eleazar the priest took the bronze censers that the burnt ones had used; they became wide plates for the altar covering.
And Eleazar the priest took the brasen censers, wherewith they that were burnt had offered; and they were made broad {plates for} a covering of the altar:
To remind the Israelites that no outsider, not from Aaron's fam, should come close to offer incense to the Lord; or they’ll end up like Korah and his crew: just like the Lord told Moses.
{To be} a memorial unto the children of Israel, that no stranger, which {is} not of the seed of Aaron, come near to offer incense before the LORD; that he be not as Korah, and as his company: as the LORD said to him by the hand of Moses.
But the next day, all the squad of Israel was like, "Yo, Moses and Aaron, you totally wiped out the Lord's peeps!"
But on the morrow all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying, Ye have killed the people of the LORD.
Then, when the crew gathered against Moses and Aaron, they peeped the tabernacle and saw a cloud covering it, and the glory of the Lord was like, "What’s good?"
And it came to pass, when the congregation was gathered against Moses and against Aaron, that they looked toward the tabernacle of the congregation: and, behold, the cloud covered it, and the glory of the LORD appeared.
So Moses and Aaron rolled up to the tabernacle.
And Moses and Aaron came before the tabernacle of the congregation.
And the Lord hit up Moses with a message, saying,
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
"Bounce from this crowd so I can wipe them out in a hot sec." And they were all like, "Nah, we’re down."
Get you up from among this congregation, that I may consume them as in a moment. And they fell upon their faces.
Moses told Aaron, "Grab a censer, light that fire from the altar, throw on some incense, and hustle to the squad to make things right, 'cause the Lord is not vibing; the plague's already poppin'."
And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a censer, and put fire therein from off the altar, and put on incense, and go quickly unto the congregation, and make an atonement for them: for there is wrath gone out from the LORD; the plague is begun.
Aaron did what Moses said and dashed into the crowd; the plague was already hitting hard, so he lit the incense and made it right for the people.
And Aaron took as Moses commanded, and ran into the midst of the congregation; and, behold, the plague was begun among the people: and he put on incense, and made an atonement for the people.
He stood between the dead and the living, and the plague chilled out.
And he stood between the dead and the living; and the plague was stayed.
For real, fourteen thousand seven hundred peeps kicked the bucket from the plague, not counting those who died over Korah's drama.
Now they that died in the plague were fourteen thousand and seven hundred, beside them that died about the matter of Korah.
Aaron bounced back to Moses at the entrance of the tabernacle, and the plague was finally over.
And Aaron returned unto Moses unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: and the plague was stayed.
