Numbers Chapter 11
So when the squad started whining, it was a full-on vibe check for the Lord; He peeped their drama and got heated, unleashing His fire that roasted the folks at the back of the camp.
And {when} the people complained, it displeased the LORD: and the LORD heard {it}; and his anger was kindled; and the fire of the LORD burnt among them, and consumed {them that were} in the uttermost parts of the camp. {complained: or, were as it were complainers} {it displeased: Heb. it was evil in the ears of}
The crew hit up Moses in a panic, and after he prayed to the Lord, the fire was like, "We good now."
And the people cried unto Moses; and when Moses prayed unto the LORD, the fire was quenched. {was...: Heb. sunk}
He called the spot Taberah because the Lord's fire was popping there.
And he called the name of the place Taberah: because the fire of the LORD burnt among them. {Taberah: that is, A burning}
The mixed crowd was acting extra, and the Israelites were back at it, like, "Who’s about to bless us with some meat?"
And the mixt multitude that {was} among them fell a lusting: and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat? {fell...: Heb. lusted a lust} {wept...: Heb. returned and wept}
We’re reminiscing about the fish we used to devour in Egypt; the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions, and garlic were straight fire.
We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlick:
But now we're feeling all parched; it's just this manna in front of us, and it's kinda sus.
But now our soul {is} dried away: {there is} nothing at all, beside this manna, {before} our eyes.
The manna was like coriander seed, looking all fancy like bdellium.
And the manna {was} as coriander seed, and the colour thereof as the colour of bdellium. {colour thereof...: Heb. eye of it as the eye of}
The people were out here collecting it, grinding it, baking it, and whipping up cakes; it tasted like fresh oil, no cap.
{And} the people went about, and gathered {it}, and ground {it} in mills, or beat {it} in a mortar, and baked {it} in pans, and made cakes of it: and the taste of it was as the taste of fresh oil.
When the dew hit the camp at night, the manna dropped like it was totally meant to go down.
And when the dew fell upon the camp in the night, the manna fell upon it.
Moses caught the fam crying in their tents, and the Lord got super mad; Moses was feeling some type of way too.
Then Moses heard the people weep throughout their families, every man in the door of his tent: and the anger of the LORD was kindled greatly; Moses also was displeased.
Moses was like, "Yo, God, why you gotta throw this stress on me? Where's my favor at? This weight is too much, fr."
And Moses said unto the LORD, Wherefore hast thou afflicted thy servant? and wherefore have I not found favour in thy sight, that thou layest the burden of all this people upon me?
"Did I give birth to all these people? Am I their dad? Why you making me carry them like a baby to the promised land?"
Have I conceived all this people? have I begotten them, that thou shouldest say unto me, Carry them in thy bosom, as a nursing father beareth the sucking child, unto the land which thou swarest unto their fathers?
"Where am I supposed to score meat for all these peeps? They’re crying for food, saying, 'Feed us, we're starving!'"
Whence should I have flesh to give unto all this people? for they weep unto me, saying, Give us flesh, that we may eat.
"I can't deal with all these folks solo, it’s way too heavy, no cap."
I am not able to bear all this people alone, because {it is} too heavy for me.
"If you're gonna keep it like this, just take me out, please. If I got your favor, I don't wanna see my struggle."
And if thou deal thus with me, kill me, I pray thee, out of hand, if I have found favour in thy sight; and let me not see my wretchedness.
God told Moses, "Gather 70 of the elders from Israel, the ones you know are real, and bring them to the tabernacle so they can vibe with you."
And the LORD said unto Moses, Gather unto me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom thou knowest to be the elders of the people, and officers over them; and bring them unto the tabernacle of the congregation, that they may stand there with thee.
"I’ll roll down and chat with you there, take some of your spirit and pass it to them, so they can help you carry the load."
And I will come down and talk with thee there: and I will take of the spirit which {is} upon thee, and will put {it} upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with thee, that thou bear {it} not thyself alone.
"Tell the people to get ready for tomorrow, they gonna feast on meat. They’ve been crying to me like, 'Who’s gonna feed us?' They miss Egypt, so I’ll hook them up."
And say thou unto the people, Sanctify yourselves against to morrow, and ye shall eat flesh: for ye have wept in the ears of the LORD, saying, Who shall give us flesh to eat? for {it was} well with us in Egypt: therefore the LORD will give you flesh, and ye shall eat.
"You ain't just gonna eat for a day or two, not even five or ten days;"
Ye shall not eat one day, nor two days, nor five days, neither ten days, nor twenty days;
"But for a whole month, until it’s coming outta your nose and you can't even deal, ‘cause you’ve dissed the Lord who's with you, whining about Egypt."
{But} even a whole month, until it come out at your nostrils, and it be loathsome unto you: because that ye have despised the LORD which {is} among you, and have wept before him, saying, Why came we forth out of Egypt? {whole...: Heb. month of days}
Moses was like, "Yo, there’s like six hundred thousand peeps here, and you said you’d hook them up with meat for a whole month. No cap."
And Moses said, The people, among whom I {am}, {are} six hundred thousand footmen; and thou hast said, I will give them flesh, that they may eat a whole month.
"You tryna wipe out all the flocks and herds for them, or gather all the fish in the sea? Like, is that even a thing?"
Shall the flocks and the herds be slain for them, to suffice them? or shall all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, to suffice them?
And the Lord was like, "Is my hand too short? You’ll see if my word hits different or nah."
And the LORD said unto Moses, Is the LORD'S hand waxed short? thou shalt see now whether my word shall come to pass unto thee or not.
Moses bounced out and dropped the Lord's message to the squad, rounding up the seventy elders and chilling them around the tabernacle.
And Moses went out, and told the people the words of the LORD, and gathered the seventy men of the elders of the people, and set them round about the tabernacle.
Then the Lord showed up in a cloud, spoke to Moses, took some of his spirit, and passed it to the seventy elders. They started prophesying and didn’t stop.
And the LORD came down in a cloud, and spake unto him, and took of the spirit that {was} upon him, and gave {it} unto the seventy elders: and it came to pass, {that}, when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, and did not cease.
But two dudes stayed back in the camp, Eldad and Medad, and the spirit was on them too. They didn’t roll out to the tabernacle but were still prophesying in the camp.
But there remained two {of the} men in the camp, the name of the one {was} Eldad, and the name of the other Medad: and the spirit rested upon them; and they {were} of them that were written, but went not out unto the tabernacle: and they prophesied in the camp.
A young dude ran up to Moses and said, "Eldad and Medad are out here prophesying in the camp!"
And there ran a young man, and told Moses, and said, Eldad and Medad do prophesy in the camp.
And Joshua, Moses' young homie, was like, "Yo, Moses, tell them to chill."
And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Moses, {one} of his young men, answered and said, My lord Moses, forbid them.
Moses shot back, "You mad jealous for me? I wish all the Lord's people were prophets and that He’d put His spirit on them!"
And Moses said unto him, Enviest thou for my sake? would God that all the LORD'S people were prophets, {and} that the LORD would put his spirit upon them!
Moses went back into the camp with the elders of Israel.
And Moses gat him into the camp, he and the elders of Israel.
A wind blew in from the Lord, bringing quails from the sea, and they fell all around the camp, like a day’s journey on each side, chilling two cubits high on the ground.
And there went forth a wind from the LORD, and brought quails from the sea, and let {them} fall by the camp, as it were a day's journey on this side, and as it were a day's journey on the other side, round about the camp, and as it were two cubits {high} upon the face of the earth. {as it were a day's...: Heb. as it were the way of a day}
The folks were up all day, all night, and into the next day, gathering quails: the least gathered ten homers, and they spread them everywhere around the camp.
And the people stood up all that day, and all {that} night, and all the next day, and they gathered the quails: he that gathered least gathered ten homers: and they spread {them} all abroad for themselves round about the camp.
While they were munching on the meat, before they even chewed, the Lord got mad at the people and hit them with a major plague.
And while the flesh {was} yet between their teeth, ere it was chewed, the wrath of the LORD was kindled against the people, and the LORD smote the people with a very great plague.
He named that spot Kibroth–hattaavah: 'cause that’s where they buried the peeps who were super thirsty.
And he called the name of that place Kibrothhattaavah: because there they buried the people that lusted. {Kibrothhattaavah: that is, The graves of lust}
The crew moved from Kibroth–hattaavah to Hazeroth and set up camp there.
{And} the people journeyed from Kibrothhattaavah unto Hazeroth; and abode at Hazeroth. {abode at: Heb. they were in}
