Lamentations Chapter 1
The city’s feeling hella lonely, used to be poppin’ with the squad! Now she’s like a widow, once a queen among nations, now just a side chick.
How doth the city sit solitary, {that was} full of people! {how} is she become as a widow! she {that was} great among the nations, {and} princess among the provinces, {how} is she become tributary!
She’s crying mad at night, tears streaming down her face: none of her homies are around to vibe with her, all her friends turned sus, now they’re the ops.
She weepeth sore in the night, and her tears {are} on her cheeks: among all her lovers she hath none to comfort {her}: all her friends have dealt treacherously with her, they are become her enemies.
Judah’s deep in the grind, working hard: she’s hanging with the outsiders, can’t catch a break, all her haters are on her case.
Judah is gone into captivity because of affliction, and because of great servitude: she dwelleth among the heathen, she findeth no rest: all her persecutors overtook her between the straits. {because of great...: Heb. for the greatness of servitude}
Zion’s in the feels, no one’s around for the festivals: all her gates are ghost town vibes, her priests are sighing, and her girls are hurting, it’s straight-up rough.
The ways of Zion do mourn, because none come to the solemn feasts: all her gates are desolate: her priests sigh, her virgins are afflicted, and she {is} in bitterness.
Her foes are thriving, her enemies are winning; God’s put her through the wringer for all her mess-ups: her kids got snatched by the enemy.
Her adversaries are the chief, her enemies prosper; for the LORD hath afflicted her for the multitude of her transgressions: her children are gone into captivity before the enemy.
All the beauty's gone from Zion; her leaders are like lost deer searching for food, totally drained by the chasers.
And from the daughter of Zion all her beauty is departed: her princes are become like harts {that} find no pasture, and they are gone without strength before the pursuer.
Jerusalem’s reminiscing about the good times when she was lit; now her crew fell to the enemy, and no one’s stepping up to help her: her foes are laughing at her struggles.
Jerusalem remembered in the days of her affliction and of her miseries all her pleasant things that she had in the days of old, when her people fell into the hand of the enemy, and none did help her: the adversaries saw her, {and} did mock at her sabbaths. {pleasant: or, desirable}
Jerusalem flopped hard; now she’s outta the game: everyone who used to hype her is looking down on her because they saw her at her lowest: she’s sighing and reflecting.
Jerusalem hath grievously sinned; therefore she is removed: all that honoured her despise her, because they have seen her nakedness: yea, she sigheth, and turneth backward. {is...: Heb. is become a removing, or, wandering}
She’s got dirt all over her clothes; she can’t remember how it all ended; she crashed hard and has no one to lift her up. Yo, Lord, peep my pain: the enemy is flexing on me.
Her filthiness {is} in her skirts; she remembereth not her last end; therefore she came down wonderfully: she had no comforter. O LORD, behold my affliction: for the enemy hath magnified {himself}.
The enemy’s taken everything good from her: she watched the outsiders roll into her sacred spot, the place God said they shouldn’t be.
The adversary hath spread out his hand upon all her pleasant things: for she hath seen {that} the heathen entered into her sanctuary, whom thou didst command {that} they should not enter into thy congregation. {pleasant: or, desirable}
Everyone’s sighing, scrounging for food; they traded their good stuff just to fill their bellies: see me, Lord, and think about it; I’m feeling hella low.
All her people sigh, they seek bread; they have given their pleasant things for meat to relieve the soul: see, O LORD, and consider; for I am become vile. {to...: or, to make the soul to come again}
Is it nothing to you, all you who pass by? Check this out, see if anyone’s sorrow is like mine, which the Lord has laid on me during his rage.
{Is it} nothing to you, all ye that pass by? behold, and see if there be any sorrow like unto my sorrow, which is done unto me, wherewith the LORD hath afflicted {me} in the day of his fierce anger. {Is it...: or, It is nothing} {pass by: Heb. pass by the way?}
From above, He sent fire into my bones, and it’s hitting hard: He set a trap for my feet, turned me around: I’m feeling lost and weak all day.
From above hath he sent fire into my bones, and it prevaileth against them: he hath spread a net for my feet, he hath turned me back: he hath made me desolate {and} faint all the day.
The weight of my mess-ups is heavy on my neck: it’s pulling me down; He’s made my strength vanish, the Lord’s handed me over to the ones I can’t shake.
The yoke of my transgressions is bound by his hand: they are wreathed, {and} come up upon my neck: he hath made my strength to fall, the Lord hath delivered me into {their} hands, {from whom} I am not able to rise up.
The Lord’s crushed all my strong guys right in front of me: He gathered a squad to take out my young men: the Lord’s treated the daughter of Judah like grapes in a press.
The Lord hath trodden under foot all my mighty {men} in the midst of me: he hath called an assembly against me to crush my young men: the Lord hath trodden the virgin, the daughter of Judah, {as} in a winepress. {the virgin...: or, the winepress of the virgin, etc}
I’m crying over this; my eyes are pouring out tears, 'cause the one who should’ve lifted me up is nowhere to be found: my kids are lost, 'cause the enemy won.
For these {things} I weep; mine eye, mine eye runneth down with water, because the comforter that should relieve my soul is far from me: my children are desolate, because the enemy prevailed. {relieve: Heb. bring back}
Zion’s reaching out, but no one’s there to comfort her: the Lord’s said the opponents should surround Jacob: Jerusalem’s vibing like a girl on her period among them.
Zion spreadeth forth her hands, {and there is} none to comfort her: the LORD hath commanded concerning Jacob, {that} his adversaries {should be} round about him: Jerusalem is as a menstruous woman among them.
The Lord’s keeping it real; I’ve gone against His rules: listen up, all y’all, and see my pain: my girls and my young men are taken away.
The LORD is righteous; for I have rebelled against his commandment: hear, I pray you, all people, and behold my sorrow: my virgins and my young men are gone into captivity. {commandment: Heb. mouth}
I called out for my peeps, but they played me: my priests and elders dipped in the city, just trying to eat to survive.
I called for my lovers, {but} they deceived me: my priests and mine elders gave up the ghost in the city, while they sought their meat to relieve their souls.
Yo, Lord, check it; I’m in a jam: my insides are all messed up, my heart’s heavy: I’ve really flopped; outside there's danger, at home it’s like death.
Behold, O LORD; for I {am} in distress: my bowels are troubled; mine heart is turned within me; for I have grievously rebelled: abroad the sword bereaveth, at home {there is} as death.
They heard me sighing: no one’s there to comfort me: all my enemies know I’m hurting; they’re stoked that You did this: You’re gonna bring the day You called, and they’ll be just like me.
They have heard that I sigh: {there is} none to comfort me: all mine enemies have heard of my trouble; they are glad that thou hast done {it}: thou wilt bring the day {that} thou hast called, and they shall be like unto me. {called: or, proclaimed}
Let all their bad vibes come to You; do to them what You did to me for all my mess-ups: my sighs are way too many, and my heart is weak.
Let all their wickedness come before thee; and do unto them, as thou hast done unto me for all my transgressions: for my sighs {are} many, and my heart {is} faint.
