Isaiah Chapter 58
Shout it out loud, don’t hold back, blast your voice like a trumpet, and expose my homies’ slip-ups, and the fam of Jacob their wrongs.
Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and shew my people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins. {aloud: Heb. with the throat}
But they be searching for me every day, vibing to learn my ways, like a squad that’s living right, not ditching their God’s rules: they hit me up for justice vibes; they’re stoked to get close to God.
Yet they seek me daily, and delight to know my ways, as a nation that did righteousness, and forsook not the ordinance of their God: they ask of me the ordinances of justice; they take delight in approaching to God.
They’re like, “Why we fasting and you ain't noticing? Why we be putting ourselves through it and you don’t care?” But for real, on your fast day you’re just chilling and grinding hard.
Wherefore have we fasted, {say they}, and thou seest not? {wherefore} have we afflicted our soul, and thou takest no knowledge? Behold, in the day of your fast ye find pleasure, and exact all your labours. {labours: or, things wherewith ye grieve others: Heb. griefs}
No cap, you fast just to beef and throw down with evil: you can’t fast like that today just to get your voice heard up high.
Behold, ye fast for strife and debate, and to smite with the fist of wickedness: ye shall not fast as {ye do this} day, to make your voice to be heard on high. {ye shall...: or, ye fast not as this day}
Is this the kind of fast I want? A day for someone to hurt themselves? Bowing down like a reed and rocking sackcloth and ashes? You think that’s a fast and a dope day for the Lord?
Is it such a fast that I have chosen? a day for a man to afflict his soul? {is it} to bow down his head as a bulrush, and to spread sackcloth and ashes {under him}? wilt thou call this a fast, and an acceptable day to the LORD? {a day...: or, to afflict his soul for a day?}
Ain’t this the fast I chose? To break the chains of wickedness, lift heavy burdens, let the oppressed be free, and crush every yoke?
{Is} not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke? {the heavy...: Heb. the bundles of the yoke} {oppressed: Heb. broken}
Isn’t it about sharing your bread with the hungry and inviting the homeless to your pad? When you peep the naked, cover them; don’t ghost your own fam.
{Is it} not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh? {cast...: or, afflicted}
Then your light will shine bright like the morning, and your health will bounce back quick: your righteousness will light the way; the glory of the Lord will be your backup.
Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall be thy rereward. {be...: Heb. gather thee up}
Then you’ll call, and the Lord will respond; you’ll shout out, and he’ll say, “I’m right here.” If you ditch the yoke, stop pointing fingers, and chill with the drama;
Then shalt thou call, and the LORD shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I {am}. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity;
And if you share your soul with the hungry and help the suffering, then your light will shine in the darkness, and your night will be bright like noon.
And {if} thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness {be} as the noonday:
The Lord will guide you nonstop, satisfy your soul in dry spells, and beef up your bones: you’ll be like a garden getting water, and like a spring that never runs dry.
And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not. {drought: Heb. droughts} {fail: Heb. lie, or, deceive}
And those who come from you will rebuild the old wreckage: you’ll lift up the foundations for many generations; and you’ll be known as The fixer of the breaks, The restorer of chill paths.
And {they that shall be} of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.
If you step back from your own vibe on the sabbath, from doing your thing on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the Lord, fire; and honor him, not doing your own stuff, nor chasing your own vibes, nor chatting your own words:
If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, {from} doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking {thine own} words:
Then you’ll find joy in the Lord; and I’ll make you ride the high spots of the earth, and feed you with the heritage of Jacob your pops: ‘cause the Lord said it, no cap.
Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken {it}.
