Exodus Chapter 18
So when Jethro, the Midian priest and Moses' father-in-law, peeped all the dope things God did for Moses and the Israelites, like how He hooked them up outta Egypt;
When Jethro, the priest of Midian, Moses' father in law, heard of all that God had done for Moses, and for Israel his people, {and} that the LORD had brought Israel out of Egypt;
Jethro, Moses' father-in-law, scooped up Zipporah, Moses' wifey, after sending her back,
Then Jethro, Moses' father in law, took Zipporah, Moses' wife, after he had sent her back,
And her two sons; the first was named Gershom, 'cause he was like, "I’ve been a total outcast in this wild land:"
And her two sons; of which the name of the one {was} Gershom; for he said, I have been an alien in a strange land: {Gershom: that is A stranger there}
The other was called Eliezer; he said, "The God of my pops was my savior and rescued me from Pharaoh's sword:"
And the name of the other {was} Eliezer; for the God of my father, {said he, was} mine help, and delivered me from the sword of Pharaoh: {Eliezer: that is, My God is an help}
So Jethro, Moses' father-in-law, rolled up with his sons and wife to chill with Moses in the wilderness, where he was camping at God's mountain:
And Jethro, Moses' father in law, came with his sons and his wife unto Moses into the wilderness, where he encamped at the mount of God:
He was like to Moses, "Yo, it’s me, your father-in-law Jethro, here with your wifey and her two kids."
And he said unto Moses, I thy father in law Jethro am come unto thee, and thy wife, and her two sons with her.
Moses went out to link up with his father-in-law, showed him some love, and gave him a kiss; they checked in on each other and then went into the tent.
And Moses went out to meet his father in law, and did obeisance, and kissed him; and they asked each other of {their} welfare; and they came into the tent. {welfare: Heb. peace}
Moses spilled the tea to his father-in-law about all the wild things the Lord did to Pharaoh and the Egyptians for Israel, and all the challenges they faced on the way, and how the Lord came through for them.
And Moses told his father in law all that the LORD had done unto Pharaoh and to the Egyptians for Israel's sake, {and} all the travail that had come upon them by the way, and {how} the LORD delivered them. {come...: Heb. found them}
And Jethro was vibing hard, praising all the lit stuff the Lord did for Israel, who He rescued from the Egyptians.
And Jethro rejoiced for all the goodness which the LORD had done to Israel, whom he had delivered out of the hand of the Egyptians.
Jethro was like, "Big ups to the Lord, who saved you from the Egyptians and Pharaoh, who got the people out from under their thumb."
And Jethro said, Blessed {be} the LORD, who hath delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of Pharaoh, who hath delivered the people from under the hand of the Egyptians.
For real, the Lord is way more epic than all these other gods; when they flexed, He was just like, "Nah, I’m the GOAT."
Now I know that the LORD {is} greater than all gods: for in the thing wherein they dealt proudly {he was} above them.
Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, brought some fire offerings for God, and Aaron plus the elders rolled up to eat bread with him before God.
And Jethro, Moses' father in law, took a burnt offering and sacrifices for God: and Aaron came, and all the elders of Israel, to eat bread with Moses' father in law before God.
The next day, Moses was judging the crew, and the people were vibing around him from sunrise to sunset.
And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses sat to judge the people: and the people stood by Moses from the morning unto the evening.
When Moses’ father-in-law peeped all the hustle he was putting in, he was like, "Yo, what’s the deal? Why you solo while everyone’s waiting on you all day?"
And when Moses' father in law saw all that he did to the people, he said, What {is} this thing that thou doest to the people? why sittest thou thyself alone, and all the people stand by thee from morning unto even?
Moses replied, "The people hit me up to ask about God, no cap."
And Moses said unto his father in law, Because the people come unto me to enquire of God:
They come to me with their problems, and I gotta judge between them, dishing out God’s rules and laws.
When they have a matter, they come unto me; and I judge between one and another, and I do make {them} know the statutes of God, and his laws. {one...: Heb. a man and his fellow}
Jethro was like, "What you’re doing ain't gonna cut it, fam."
And Moses' father in law said unto him, The thing that thou doest {is} not good.
You’re gonna burn out, both you and the crew; this is too much for you to juggle solo, fr.
Thou wilt surely wear away, both thou, and this people that {is} with thee: for this thing {is} too heavy for thee; thou art not able to perform it thyself alone. {Thou wilt...: Heb. Fading thou wilt fade}
Listen up, I got some wisdom for you, and God’s got your back: be the people's connection to God, bringing their cases to Him.
Hearken now unto my voice, I will give thee counsel, and God shall be with thee: Be thou for the people to God-ward, that thou mayest bring the causes unto God:
Teach them the rules and laws, show them the path they gotta follow, and the work they need to put in.
And thou shalt teach them ordinances and laws, and shalt shew them the way wherein they must walk, and the work that they must do.
Yo, find some solid folks who fear God, real ones who despise greed; put them in charge as leaders of thousands, hundreds, fifties, and tens.
Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place {such} over them, {to be} rulers of thousands, {and} rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens:
Let them handle the judging all the time; bring the heavy stuff to you, but let them take care of the small fries. This will make your life way easier, and they’ll help carry the load with you.
And let them judge the people at all seasons: and it shall be, {that} every great matter they shall bring unto thee, but every small matter they shall judge: so shall it be easier for thyself, and they shall bear {the burden} with thee.
If you pull this off and God’s with you, you’ll be able to manage it, and everyone will vibe in peace.
If thou shalt do this thing, and God command thee {so}, then thou shalt be able to endure, and all this people shall also go to their place in peace.
So Moses took his father-in-law's advice and did everything he suggested, no cap.
So Moses hearkened to the voice of his father in law, and did all that he had said.
Moses picked out the best peeps from all Israel and made them leaders over the crew, rulers of thousands, hundreds, fifties, and tens.
And Moses chose able men out of all Israel, and made them heads over the people, rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.
They judged the people all day long; the tough cases went to Moses, but they handled the easy stuff themselves.
And they judged the people at all seasons: the hard causes they brought unto Moses, but every small matter they judged themselves.
Moses let his father-in-law bounce, and he headed back to his own land, periodt.
And Moses let his father in law depart; and he went his way into his own land.
