Amos Chapter 3
Ayo, peep this! God’s got some gossip for you, fam of Israel, the whole squad I brought up from Egypt, saying,
Hear this word that the LORD hath spoken against you, O children of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up from the land of Egypt, saying,
You’re the only fam I vibe with, so when you slip up, it’s on you, no cap.
You only have I known of all the families of the earth: therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities. {punish: Heb. visit upon}
Can two homies chill together if they ain’t vibing right?
Can two walk together, except they be agreed?
Will a lion just roar in the jungle if he ain't got no munchies? Like, for real.
Will a lion roar in the forest, when he hath no prey? will a young lion cry out of his den, if he have taken nothing? {cry: Heb. give forth his voice}
Can a bird get trapped if there ain't no bait? That’s mad sus, right?
Can a bird fall in a snare upon the earth, where no gin {is} for him? shall {one} take up a snare from the earth, and have taken nothing at all?
Is a trumpet gonna blast in the city and people just vibe? If things go down, you know it’s God’s move, periodt.
Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done {it}? {be afraid: or, run together?} {the LORD...: or, shall not the LORD do somewhat?}
No lie, God ain’t gonna make any moves without giving the scoop to his crew, the prophets.
Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.
When the lion roars, who’s not gonna be shook? God’s on it, so who can stay quiet?
The lion hath roared, who will not fear? the Lord GOD hath spoken, who can but prophesy?
Spread the news in Ashdod and Egypt, tell ‘em to gather on the hills of Samaria and check out the chaos and the mistreated.
Publish in the palaces at Ashdod, and in the palaces in the land of Egypt, and say, Assemble yourselves upon the mountains of Samaria, and behold the great tumults in the midst thereof, and the oppressed in the midst thereof. {oppressed: or, oppressions}
They don’t even know how to act right, says the Lord, just piling up violence and theft in their pads.
For they know not to do right, saith the LORD, who store up violence and robbery in their palaces. {robbery: or, spoil}
So check it, says the Lord God; there’s gonna be some heat around the land, and your strength is about to get jacked, your spots are getting wrecked.
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; An adversary {there shall be} even round about the land; and he shall bring down thy strength from thee, and thy palaces shall be spoiled.
Just like a shepherd snags two legs from a lion’s mouth, that’s how the kids of Israel in Samaria are gonna get taken out, chilling on their beds.
Thus saith the LORD; As the shepherd taketh out of the mouth of the lion two legs, or a piece of an ear; so shall the children of Israel be taken out that dwell in Samaria in the corner of a bed, and in Damascus {in} a couch. {taketh: Heb. delivereth} {in Damascus...: or, on the bed's feet}
Listen up and drop the tea in Jacob’s house, says the Lord God, the God of the squad.
Hear ye, and testify in the house of Jacob, saith the Lord GOD, the God of hosts,
When I roll up to see Israel’s mess, I’m also gonna crash the altars at Beth-el: those altar horns are getting chopped and hitting the ground.
That in the day that I shall visit the transgressions of Israel upon him I will also visit the altars of Bethel: and the horns of the altar shall be cut off, and fall to the ground. {visit: or, punish Israel for}
I’m about to flip the winter spot with the summer crib; those ivory houses are gonna fade, and the big ones are gonna end, says the Lord.
And I will smite the winter house with the summer house; and the houses of ivory shall perish, and the great houses shall have an end, saith the LORD.
