Jeremiah Chapter 22
So the Lord was like, "Slide down to the king's pad in Judah and drop this message."
Thus saith the LORD; Go down to the house of the king of Judah, and speak there this word,
Then you gotta say, "Yo, hear the word of the Lord, O king of Judah, chilling on David's throne, you, your crew, and all the peeps coming through these gates."
And say, Hear the word of the LORD, O king of Judah, that sittest upon the throne of David, thou, and thy servants, and thy people that enter in by these gates:
The Lord's telling you, "Stay true, do what's right, and help those getting played; for real, don’t mess with the stranger, the orphans, or the widows, and don’t spill innocent blood here."
Thus saith the LORD; Execute ye judgment and righteousness, and deliver the spoiled out of the hand of the oppressor: and do no wrong, do no violence to the stranger, the fatherless, nor the widow, neither shed innocent blood in this place.
"If you actually handle this, kings will come rolling in through these gates, chilling on David's throne, riding chariots and horses, with their homies and people."
For if ye do this thing indeed, then shall there enter in by the gates of this house kings sitting upon the throne of David, riding in chariots and on horses, he, and his servants, and his people. {upon...: Heb. for David upon his throne}
"But if you sleep on these words, I swear to you, says the Lord, this place is gonna turn into a ghost town."
But if ye will not hear these words, I swear by myself, saith the LORD, that this house shall become a desolation.
"The Lord's saying to the king's fam in Judah, 'You vibe like Gilead to me, and the peak of Lebanon, but I’m about to flip you into a wasteland with empty cities.'"
For thus saith the LORD unto the king's house of Judah; Thou {art} Gilead unto me, {and} the head of Lebanon: {yet} surely I will make thee a wilderness, {and} cities {which} are not inhabited.
"I’m sending in the demolition squad, each with their gear, and they’ll chop down your finest cedars and toss 'em in the flames."
And I will prepare destroyers against thee, every one with his weapons: and they shall cut down thy choice cedars, and cast {them} into the fire.
"Nations will pass by this city, and they’ll ask each other, 'What’s the deal with the Lord doing this to such a fire city?'"
And many nations shall pass by this city, and they shall say every man to his neighbour, Wherefore hath the LORD done thus unto this great city?
"Then they’ll spill the tea, saying, 'It’s 'cause they bounced on the Lord’s pact and worshipped other gods, serving them instead.'"
Then they shall answer, Because they have forsaken the covenant of the LORD their God, and worshipped other gods, and served them.
"Don’t weep for the dead, or feel all sad; instead, cry hard for the one who's leaving, 'cause he ain't coming back or seeing his crib again."
Weep ye not for the dead, neither bemoan him: {but} weep sore for him that goeth away: for he shall return no more, nor see his native country.
God’s like, “Yo, Shallum, son of Josiah, you’re king now, but you ain't coming back here, for real.”
For thus saith the LORD touching Shallum the son of Josiah king of Judah, which reigned instead of Josiah his father, which went forth out of this place; He shall not return thither any more:
He’s gonna kick the bucket where he got taken, and he won’t peep this land again, no cap.
But he shall die in the place whither they have led him captive, and shall see this land no more.
Big oof to anyone building their pad with shady vibes, using their neighbor’s hustle for free, that’s just sus.
Woe unto him that buildeth his house by unrighteousness, and his chambers by wrong; {that} useth his neighbour's service without wages, and giveth him not for his work;
This dude’s like, “I’m gonna put up a massive crib with dope windows, all styled out in cedar and red paint,” but like, chill.
That saith, I will build me a wide house and large chambers, and cutteth him out windows; and {it is} cieled with cedar, and painted with vermilion. {large: Heb. through-aired} {windows: or, my windows}
You think you’re the boss just 'cause you flexing with cedar? Didn’t your pops eat, drink, and keep it real?
Shalt thou reign, because thou closest {thyself} in cedar? did not thy father eat and drink, and do judgment and justice, {and} then {it was} well with him?
He looked out for the poor and needy; that’s how you know he was vibing right, says the Lord.
He judged the cause of the poor and needy; then {it was} well {with him: was} not this to know me? saith the LORD.
But you’re only about that greed, spilling innocent blood, and causing chaos, that’s just savage.
But thine eyes and thine heart {are} not but for thy covetousness, and for to shed innocent blood, and for oppression, and for violence, to do {it}. {violence: or, incursion}
So God’s saying about Jehoiakim, “Ain’t nobody gonna mourn for him, like, 'Oh my dude!' or 'Sis!' Just no.”
Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah; They shall not lament for him, {saying}, Ah my brother! or, Ah sister! they shall not lament for him, {saying}, Ah lord! or, Ah his glory!
He’s gonna get buried like a donkey, tossed out beyond Jerusalem’s gates, for real.
He shall be buried with the burial of an ass, drawn and cast forth beyond the gates of Jerusalem.
Head over to Lebanon and scream; raise your voice in Bashan, cry out from the spots: all your homies are done for.
Go up to Lebanon, and cry; and lift up thy voice in Bashan, and cry from the passages: for all thy lovers are destroyed.
I hit you up when you were vibing, but you were like, “Nah, I’m good.” You’ve been ignoring my vibes since day one, no cap.
I spake unto thee in thy prosperity; {but} thou saidst, I will not hear. This {hath been} thy manner from thy youth, that thou obeyedst not my voice. {prosperity: Heb. prosperities}
The wind’s gonna take out all your squad, and your favorites are gonna bounce: you’ll be feeling real sus for all that wickedness.
The wind shall eat up all thy pastors, and thy lovers shall go into captivity: surely then shalt thou be ashamed and confounded for all thy wickedness.
Yo, Lebanon peeps, chilling' in those cedar trees, how you gonna feel when the pain hits, like a girl in labor?
O inhabitant of Lebanon, that makest thy nest in the cedars, how gracious shalt thou be when pangs come upon thee, the pain as of a woman in travail! {inhabitant: Heb. inhabitress}
As I live, says the Lord, even if Coniah, son of Jehoiakim, was my ride-or-die, I’d still drop him like it’s hot.
{As} I live, saith the LORD, though Coniah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah were the signet upon my right hand, yet would I pluck thee thence;
I’m handing you over to those who want your life and those whose looks you can’t handle, even Nebuchadrezzar, king of Babylon, and the Chaldeans.
And I will give thee into the hand of them that seek thy life, and into the hand {of them} whose face thou fearest, even into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of the Chaldeans.
I’m kicking you and your mom out to a place you don’t even know; that’s where you’ll catch your last breath.
And I will cast thee out, and thy mother that bare thee, into another country, where ye were not born; and there shall ye die.
But the land they wanna bounce back to? Yeah, they ain’t coming back there, for real.
But to the land whereunto they desire to return, thither shall they not return. {desire: Heb. lift up their mind}
Is Coniah just a broken idol? A no-go vessel? Why’s he and his fam getting tossed to a land they don’t even know?
{Is} this man Coniah a despised broken idol? {is he} a vessel wherein {is} no pleasure? wherefore are they cast out, he and his seed, and are cast into a land which they know not?
Yo, earth, earth, earth, hear the word of the Lord.
O earth, earth, earth, hear the word of the LORD.
The Lord says, “Write this guy off as childless, he ain’t gonna thrive; no one from his crew will sit on David’s throne or rule in Judah again.”
Thus saith the LORD, Write ye this man childless, a man {that} shall not prosper in his days: for no man of his seed shall prosper, sitting upon the throne of David, and ruling any more in Judah.
