Jeremiah Chapter 18
Ayo, the word dropped on Jeremiah straight from the Lord, like, "What’s poppin'?"
The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
Get up and bounce to the potter’s joint, I’m about to drop some gems on you there.
Arise, and go down to the potter's house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words.
So, I pulled up to the potter’s spot, and he was grinding, working the wheel.
Then I went down to the potter's house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels. {wheels: or, frames, or, seats}
The clay piece he was shaping got messed up in his grip, so he just crafted another one, whatever looked dope to him.
And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make {it}. {of clay...: or, was marred, as clay in the hand of the potter} {made it...: Heb. returned and made, etc}
Then the Lord started talking to me, saying,
Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
"Yo, house of Israel, can’t I pull the same moves as this potter does? Just like the clay is in his grip, you’re in mine, fam."
O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the LORD. Behold, as the clay {is} in the potter's hand, so {are} ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.
Whenever I decide to hit up a nation or a kingdom, to tear it down or wreck it;
{At what} instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy {it};
If that nation I called out turns from their bad vibes, I’ll back off the plans I had for them.
If that nation, against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them.
And whenever I decide to hit up a nation or a kingdom, to build it up or plant it;
And {at what} instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant {it};
If they go sideways in my eyes and don’t vibe with me, then I’ll switch up my plans about the good I wanted to do for them.
If it do evil in my sight, that it obey not my voice, then I will repent of the good, wherewith I said I would benefit them.
So, go tell the homies in Judah and the crew in Jerusalem, "The Lord says this: I’m cooking up some plans against you, so flip your bad vibes and get your lives together."
Now therefore go to, speak to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I frame evil against you, and devise a device against you: return ye now every one from his evil way, and make your ways and your doings good.
But they were like, "Nah, there’s no hope; we’re just gonna do our thing and follow our wicked hearts."
And they said, There is no hope: but we will walk after our own devices, and we will every one do the imagination of his evil heart.
So the Lord said, "Yo, check it, ask the nations who’s heard such wild things: Israel’s virgin has done something super sus."
Therefore thus saith the LORD; Ask ye now among the heathen, who hath heard such things: the virgin of Israel hath done a very horrible thing.
Will a dude ditch the snow from Lebanon that drops from the rocks? Or abandon the dope waters from somewhere else?
Will {a man} leave the snow of Lebanon {which cometh} from the rock of the field? {or} shall the cold flowing waters that come from another place be forsaken? {the snow...: or, my fields for a rock, or for the snow of Lebanon? shall the running waters be forsaken for the strange cold waters?}
My people forgot about me, burning incense to nothing, tripping off the old paths to walk in shady ways;
Because my people hath forgotten me, they have burned incense to vanity, and they have caused them to stumble in their ways {from} the ancient paths, to walk in paths, {in} a way not cast up;
They’re turning their land into a wasteland, and it’s gonna be a constant vibe check; everyone passing by will be shook and shake their heads.
To make their land desolate, {and} a perpetual hissing; every one that passeth thereby shall be astonished, and wag his head.
I’ll scatter them like leaves in the wind before their enemies; I’ll turn my back, not my face, when their tough times roll in.
I will scatter them as with an east wind before the enemy; I will shew them the back, and not the face, in the day of their calamity.
Then they were like, "Let’s cook up a plan against Jeremiah; the law won’t drop from the priest, nor will wisdom come from the wise, nor the prophet's words. Let’s roast him with our words and ignore what he’s saying."
Then said they, Come, and let us devise devices against Jeremiah; for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let us smite him with the tongue, and let us not give heed to any of his words. {with...: or, for the tongue}
Yo, listen up, Lord, and hear the voices of those coming for me.
Give heed to me, O LORD, and hearken to the voice of them that contend with me.
Can evil pay back good? They dug a pit for my soul. Remember, I stood before you to speak good for them and chill your anger.
Shall evil be recompensed for good? for they have digged a pit for my soul. Remember that I stood before thee to speak good for them, {and} to turn away thy wrath from them.
So, let their kids face famine, and spill their blood with the sword; let their wives lose their children and be widowed; let their men get taken out; let the young ones fall in battle.
Therefore deliver up their children to the famine, and pour out their {blood} by the force of the sword; and let their wives be bereaved of their children, and {be} widows; and let their men be put to death; {let} their young men {be} slain by the sword in battle. {pour...: Heb. pour them out}
Let there be a shout from their homes when you roll through with a squad suddenly: they dug a pit to catch me and set traps for my feet.
Let a cry be heard from their houses, when thou shalt bring a troop suddenly upon them: for they have digged a pit to take me, and hid snares for my feet.
But, Lord, you know all their plans against me to take me out: don’t forgive their wrongs or wipe their sins from your view, but let them get wrecked before you; handle them during your anger.
Yet, LORD, thou knowest all their counsel against me to slay {me}: forgive not their iniquity, neither blot out their sin from thy sight, but let them be overthrown before thee; deal {thus} with them in the time of thine anger. {to slay...: Heb. for death}
