Isaiah Chapter 37
So when King Hezekiah got the news, he tore his outfit, threw on some sackcloth, and headed straight to the Lord's crib.
And it came to pass, when king Hezekiah heard {it}, that he rent his clothes, and covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of the LORD.
He sent Eliakim, the household chief, Shebna the scribe, and the sackcloth crew to Isaiah, the prophet and son of Amoz.
And he sent Eliakim, who {was} over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests covered with sackcloth, unto Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz.
They were like, "Hezekiah said, today’s a total vibe of stress and shade, ‘cause the kids are set to be born but can’t break out yet."
And they said unto him, Thus saith Hezekiah, This day {is} a day of trouble, and of rebuke, and of blasphemy: for the children are come to the birth, and {there is} not strength to bring forth. {blasphemy: or, provocation}
Maybe your God will catch wind of Rabshakeh’s words, the Assyrian king’s hype dude trashing the living God, and spill the tea He’s heard: so just throw up some prayers for the crew that’s left.
It may be the LORD thy God will hear the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master hath sent to reproach the living God, and will reprove the words which the LORD thy God hath heard: wherefore lift up {thy} prayer for the remnant that is left. {left: Heb. found}
Then, Hezekiah's crew rolled over to Isaiah.
So the servants of king Hezekiah came to Isaiah.
Isaiah said, "Let your boss know, the Lord’s got your back, don’t sweat what you heard from the Assyrian crew dissing me."
And Isaiah said unto them, Thus shall ye say unto your master, Thus saith the LORD, Be not afraid of the words that thou hast heard, wherewith the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me.
For real, I’m sending some serious drama his way; he’ll peep a rumor and bounce back to his turf; I’ll make sure he gets taken down by his own sword over there.
Behold, I will send a blast upon him, and he shall hear a rumour, and return to his own land; and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land. {send...: or, put a spirit into him}
So Rabshakeh bounced back and peeped the Assyrian king ready to throw down against Libnah, ‘cause he caught wind that he dipped from Lachish.
So Rabshakeh returned, and found the king of Assyria warring against Libnah: for he had heard that he was departed from Lachish.
And he got the 411 about Tirhakah, king of Ethiopia, coming to start some drama with you. He sent messages to Hezekiah, saying,
And he heard say concerning Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, He is come forth to make war with thee. And when he heard {it}, he sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying,
"Tell Hezekiah, king of Judah, don’t let your God, whom you’re vibing with, play you, saying Jerusalem won’t fall into the hands of the Assyrian king."
Thus shall ye speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Let not thy God, in whom thou trustest, deceive thee, saying, Jerusalem shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.
Yo, you’ve seen how the Assyrian kings totally obliterated all the lands, right? You think you’re gonna dodge that?
Behold, thou hast heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands by destroying them utterly; and shalt thou be delivered?
Did the gods of those nations save them when my crew wiped them out, like Gozan, Haran, and Rezeph, and the Eden squad in Telassar?
Have the gods of the nations delivered them which my fathers have destroyed, {as} Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden which {were} in Telassar?
Where the heck are the king of Hamath, the king of Arphad, and the king of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivah?
Where {is} the king of Hamath, and the king of Arphad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivah?
Hezekiah got the letter from the messengers and checked it out, then he went to the Lord’s crib and laid it out like, "Peep this."
And Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it: and Hezekiah went up unto the house of the LORD, and spread it before the LORD.
And Hezekiah was like, "Yo, Lord, you gotta listen!"
And Hezekiah prayed unto the LORD, saying,
O Lord of hosts, God of Israel, chilling between the cherubim, you’re the one and only God of all the kingdoms on Earth: you crafted heaven and Earth, no cap.
O LORD of hosts, God of Israel, that dwellest {between} the cherubims, thou {art} the God, {even} thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth: thou hast made heaven and earth.
Turn your ear, O Lord, and catch this; open your eyes, O Lord, and see what’s going down: hear all the words from Sennacherib, who’s coming for the living God.
Incline thine ear, O LORD, and hear; open thine eyes, O LORD, and see: and hear all the words of Sennacherib, which hath sent to reproach the living God.
For real, Lord, the kings of Assyria have wiped out all the nations and their territories, fr.
Of a truth, LORD, the kings of Assyria have laid waste all the nations, and their countries, {nations: Heb. lands}
They tossed their gods into the flames, but those were just fake, made by human hands, wood and stone, so they got wrecked.
And have cast their gods into the fire: for they {were} no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone: therefore they have destroyed them. {cast: Heb. given}
So now, O Lord our God, rescue us from his grip, so all the kingdoms of the Earth will know you’re the Lord, the one and only.
Now therefore, O LORD our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou {art} the LORD, {even} thou only.
Then Isaiah, Amoz's kid, hit up Hezekiah, saying, "Yo, the Lord God of Israel is saying, since you prayed against Sennacherib, the Assyrian king:"
Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent unto Hezekiah, saying, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Whereas thou hast prayed to me against Sennacherib king of Assyria:
This is what the Lord dropped about him; the virgin daughter of Zion is lowkey roasting you, and Jerusalem's daughter is like, "LOL, nah."
This {is} the word which the LORD hath spoken concerning him; The virgin, the daughter of Zion, hath despised thee, {and} laughed thee to scorn; the daughter of Jerusalem hath shaken her head at thee.
Who do you think you’re coming for, dissing and flexing? Against the Holy One of Israel, for real?
Whom hast thou reproached and blasphemed? and against whom hast thou exalted {thy} voice, and lifted up thine eyes on high? {even} against the Holy One of Israel.
You’ve been throwing shade at the Lord through your squad, saying, "I’m rolling up with my chariots to the highest hills, ready to chop down the finest trees, periodt."
By thy servants hast thou reproached the Lord, and hast said, By the multitude of my chariots am I come up to the height of the mountains, to the sides of Lebanon; and I will cut down the tall cedars thereof, {and} the choice fir trees thereof: and I will enter into the height of his border, {and} the forest of his Carmel. {By thy...: Heb. By the hand of thy servants} {the tall...: Heb. the tallness of the cedars thereof and the choice of the fir trees thereof} {the forest...: or, the forest and his fruitful field}
I've dug and sipped water; with my kicks, I’ve dried up all the rivers where they’re trapped, no cap.
I have digged, and drunk water; and with the sole of my feet have I dried up all the rivers of the besieged places. {besieged: or, fenced and closed}
Haven’t you heard how I’ve been doing this since way back? I made it happen so you could turn strong cities into ruins, fr.
Hast thou not heard long ago, {how} I have done it; {and} of ancient times, that I have formed it? now have I brought it to pass, that thou shouldest be to lay waste defenced cities {into} ruinous heaps. {Hast...: or, Hast thou not heard how I have made it long ago, and formed it of ancient times? should I now bring it to be laid waste, and defenced cities to be ruinous heaps?}
So their peeps were weak, shook, and confused; they were like grass in the field, just chilling and getting wrecked.
Therefore their inhabitants {were} of small power, they were dismayed and confounded: they were {as} the grass of the field, and {as} the green herb, {as} the grass on the housetops, and {as corn} blasted before it be grown up. {of small...: Heb. short of hand}
But I know where you hang, how you roll, and how you're coming at me with that anger.
But I know thy abode, and thy going out, and thy coming in, and thy rage against me. {abode: or, sitting}
Since your rage is loud in my ears, I’m gonna put a hook in your nose and a bridle on your lips, then send you back the way you came, bet.
Because thy rage against me, and thy tumult, is come up into mine ears, therefore will I put my hook in thy nose, and my bridle in thy lips, and I will turn thee back by the way by which thou camest.
And here’s the scoop, you’ll eat what grows on its own this year; same next year; and in the third year, plant your vineyards and enjoy that fruit, it’s gonna be fire.
And this {shall be} a sign unto thee, Ye shall eat {this} year such as groweth of itself; and the second year that which springeth of the same: and in the third year sow ye, and reap, and plant vineyards, and eat the fruit thereof.
The crew that bounced from Judah is gonna dig down deep and grow strong, no cap.
And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall again take root downward, and bear fruit upward: {the remnant...: Heb. the escaping of the house of Judah that remaineth}
A remnant's gonna rise up from Jerusalem, escaping from mount Zion, and the Lord’s hype will make it happen.
For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and they that escape out of mount Zion: the zeal of the LORD of hosts shall do this. {they...: Heb. the escaping}
So the Lord’s like, “Listen up, Assyria's king ain't stepping foot in this city, no arrows, no shields, nada.”
Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the king of Assyria, He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it with shields, nor cast a bank against it.
He’s gonna bounce back the same way he came, not entering this city, says the Lord, periodt.
By the way that he came, by the same shall he return, and shall not come into this city, saith the LORD.
I’m backing this city to save it for my own rep and for my dude David, fr.
For I will defend this city to save it for mine own sake, and for my servant David's sake.
Then the angel of the Lord showed up and took out 185,000 Assyrians; when they woke up in the morning, it was all dead vibes.
Then the angel of the LORD went forth, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they {were} all dead corpses.
So Sennacherib, king of Assyria, dipped and went back to chill in Nineveh.
So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and dwelt at Nineveh.
While he was worshipping in the house of his god Nisroch, his sons Adrammelech and Sharezer went savage on him with the sword; they bounced to Armenia, and Esar-haddon, his son, took over.
And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Armenia: and Esarhaddon his son reigned in his stead. {Armenia: Heb. Ararat}
