Ecclesiastes Chapter 1
The vibes from the Preacher, David's kid, who ruled in Jerusalem, are legit.
The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem.
Straight up vanity, the Preacher says, like all this is lowkey sus.
Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all {is} vanity.
What’s the point in hustling all day under the sun? Like, fr?
What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun?
One generation checks out, the next one slides in, but the earth? Always chilling.
{One} generation passeth away, and {another} generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever.
The sun goes up, then dips down, and is like, 'See ya later.'
The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down, and hasteth to his place where he arose. {hasteth: Heb. panteth}
The wind be like, 'South, then north, and around it spins, no cap.'
The wind goeth toward the south, and turneth about unto the north; it whirleth about continually, and the wind returneth again according to his circuits.
All the rivers flow to the sea, but the sea ain't even full; they just keep pulling up, periodt.
All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea {is} not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again. {return...: Heb. return to go}
Everything’s a hustle; humans can’t even keep pace. Eyes are never satisfied, ears are always craving.
All things {are} full of labour; man cannot utter {it}: the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing.
What’s gone down before is gonna go down again; no fresh trends under the sun, for real.
The thing that hath been, it {is that} which shall be; and that which is done {is} that which shall be done: and {there is} no new {thing} under the sun.
Is there anything fresh? Nah, it’s all been done before, straight up.
Is there {any} thing whereof it may be said, See, this {is} new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us.
No one remembers what went down in the past, and future vibes will fade too, fr.
{There is} no remembrance of former {things}; neither shall there be {any} remembrance of {things} that are to come with {those} that shall come after.
I, the Preacher, was the king of Israel in Jerusalem, just saying.
I the Preacher was king over Israel in Jerusalem.
I was on a quest to figure out wisdom about everything under heaven; this grind is what God put on our plate.
And I gave my heart to seek and search out by wisdom concerning all {things} that are done under heaven: this sore travail hath God given to the sons of man to be exercised therewith. {to be...: or, to afflict them}
I’ve peeped all the happenings under the sun; honestly, it’s all vanity and struggles.
I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all {is} vanity and vexation of spirit.
What’s crooked can’t be straightened; what’s missing? Can’t even keep track, no cap.
{That which is} crooked cannot be made straight: and that which is wanting cannot be numbered. {that which is wanting: Heb. defect}
I was talking to my heart, like, 'I’m living large and got wild wisdom compared to anyone before me in Jerusalem.'
I communed with mine own heart, saying, Lo, I am come to great estate, and have gotten more wisdom than all {they} that have been before me in Jerusalem: yea, my heart had great experience of wisdom and knowledge. {had...: Heb. had seen much}
I was all about understanding wisdom and life's chaos; realized this too is just stress.
And I gave my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived that this also is vexation of spirit.
Too much wisdom brings too much pain; more knowledge? Just more hurt, no cap.
For in much wisdom {is} much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.
