2 Kings Chapter 20
So Hezekiah was seriously ill, on the brink of checking out. Isaiah, that prophet dude, showed up and was like, "God's telling you to sort your life out, fam; you're about to peace out, no cap."
In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz came to him, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Set thine house in order; for thou shalt die, and not live. {Set...: Heb. Give charge concerning thine house}
Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and was like, "Lord, I need your help, please."
Then he turned his face to the wall, and prayed unto the LORD, saying,
He was all, "Yo, God, remember how I’ve kept it real with you and stayed true? I’ve done solid things in your sight." And Hezekiah was weeping hard, fr.
I beseech thee, O LORD, remember now how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done {that which is} good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore. {sore: Heb. with a great weeping}
Before Isaiah even left the courtyard, God hit him up with a message, saying,
And it came to pass, afore Isaiah was gone out into the middle court, that the word of the LORD came to him, saying, {court: or, city}
"Yo, head back and tell Hezekiah, my dude, that I heard your prayer and peeped your tears. I got you—gonna heal you, and in three days, you’ll come to my crib."
Turn again, and tell Hezekiah the captain of my people, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee: on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of the LORD.
"I’m adding fifteen years to your life; I’ll rescue you and the city from the Assyrian king. I’m looking out for you for my reasons and for David's sake, periodt."
And I will add unto thy days fifteen years; and I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria; and I will defend this city for mine own sake, and for my servant David's sake.
Isaiah was like, "Get some figs." They placed them on his boil, and he bounced back quick.
And Isaiah said, Take a lump of figs. And they took and laid {it} on the boil, and he recovered.
Hezekiah asked Isaiah, "What’s the sign that I’ll get healed and hit the Lord’s house on day three?"
And Hezekiah said unto Isaiah, What {shall be} the sign that the LORD will heal me, and that I shall go up into the house of the LORD the third day?
Isaiah said, "You’ll get a sign from the Lord: Do you want the shadow to push forward ten degrees or slide back ten degrees?"
And Isaiah said, This sign shalt thou have of the LORD, that the LORD will do the thing that he hath spoken: shall the shadow go forward ten degrees, or go back ten degrees?
Hezekiah was like, "It’s easy for the shadow to go down ten degrees; nah, let it slide back ten degrees instead."
And Hezekiah answered, It is a light thing for the shadow to go down ten degrees: nay, but let the shadow return backward ten degrees.
Isaiah prayed to the Lord, and just like that, the shadow moved back ten degrees like it had dipped on Ahaz’s dial.
And Isaiah the prophet cried unto the LORD: and he brought the shadow ten degrees backward, by which it had gone down in the dial of Ahaz. {dial: Heb. degrees}
In the meantime, Berodach–baladan, the king of Babylon, sent letters and gifts to Hezekiah since he heard about his sickness.
At that time Berodachbaladan, the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present unto Hezekiah: for he had heard that Hezekiah had been sick. {Berodachbaladan: or, Merodachbaladan}
Hezekiah was cool with them and showed off all his goods—silver, gold, spices, and his dope armor. He flexed everything he owned.
And Hezekiah hearkened unto them, and shewed them all the house of his precious things, the silver, and the gold, and the spices, and the precious ointment, and {all} the house of his armour, and all that was found in his treasures: there was nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that Hezekiah shewed them not. {precious things: or, spicery} {armour: or, jewels: Heb. vessels}
Then Isaiah rolled up to Hezekiah and asked, "What did those guys say? Where are they from?" Hezekiah replied, "They’re from way over in Babylon."
Then came Isaiah the prophet unto king Hezekiah, and said unto him, What said these men? and from whence came they unto thee? And Hezekiah said, They are come from a far country, {even} from Babylon.
"And what did they see in your spot?" Hezekiah responded, "They saw everything in my crib; I didn’t hold back anything."
And he said, What have they seen in thine house? And Hezekiah answered, All {the things} that {are} in mine house have they seen: there is nothing among my treasures that I have not shewed them.
Isaiah told Hezekiah, "Listen to what the Lord is saying."
And Isaiah said unto Hezekiah, Hear the word of the LORD.
"The days are coming when all your stuff and what your ancestors saved will be taken to Babylon; nothing will be left, says the Lord."
Behold, the days come, that all that {is} in thine house, and that which thy fathers have laid up in store unto this day, shall be carried into Babylon: nothing shall be left, saith the LORD.
"And your future kids? They’ll be taken away and become eunuchs in the palace of the Babylon king."
And of thy sons that shall issue from thee, which thou shalt beget, shall they take away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.
Hezekiah said to Isaiah, "The Lord’s word is solid." He added, "Isn’t it cool if I get peace and truth during my time?"
Then said Hezekiah unto Isaiah, Good {is} the word of the LORD which thou hast spoken. And he said, {Is it} not {good}, if peace and truth be in my days? {Is it...: or, Shall there not be peace and truth, etc}
"And all the other sick things Hezekiah did, like making a pool and bringing water to the city, aren’t they written in the chronicles of Judah’s kings?"
And the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and all his might, and how he made a pool, and a conduit, and brought water into the city, {are} they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
Hezekiah kicked the bucket and joined his ancestors, and his son Manasseh took over as king.
And Hezekiah slept with his fathers: and Manasseh his son reigned in his stead.
