2 Kings Chapter 19
When King Hezekiah caught wind of the situation, he ripped his drip, threw on some sackcloth, and bounced to the Lord's pad.
And it came to pass, when king Hezekiah heard {it}, that he rent his clothes, and covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of the LORD.
He sent Eliakim, the top dude of the house, Shebna the scribe, and some priest elders, all rocking sackcloth, to hit up Isaiah the prophet, son of Amoz.
And he sent Eliakim, which {was} over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, covered with sackcloth, to Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz.
They were like, "Hezekiah’s saying, today’s a major stress fest, full of shade and disrespect; the kids are about to come, but there's no strength to push through."
And they said unto him, Thus saith Hezekiah, This day {is} a day of trouble, and of rebuke, and blasphemy: for the children are come to the birth, and {there is} not strength to bring forth. {blasphemy: or, provocation}
Maybe your Lord God will catch the lowdown from Rab-shakeh, the Assyrian king’s hype man, who's throwing major shade at the living God; just lift up your prayers for the crew that’s left.
It may be the LORD thy God will hear all the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master hath sent to reproach the living God; and will reprove the words which the LORD thy God hath heard: wherefore lift up {thy} prayer for the remnant that are left. {left: Heb. found}
So Hezekiah's squad rolled up to Isaiah.
So the servants of king Hezekiah came to Isaiah.
Isaiah responded, "This is what you gotta drop to your king: The Lord's saying, don't sweat the words you caught from the Assyrian crew throwing shade at me."
And Isaiah said unto them, Thus shall ye say to your master, Thus saith the LORD, Be not afraid of the words which thou hast heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me.
Check it, I’m about to send a vibe check his way; he’ll catch some gossip and bounce back to his crib; I’ll make sure he falls by the sword there.
Behold, I will send a blast upon him, and he shall hear a rumour, and shall return to his own land; and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.
Rab-shakeh bounced back and found the Assyrian king beefing with Libnah, ‘cause he heard he split from Lachish.
So Rabshakeh returned, and found the king of Assyria warring against Libnah: for he had heard that he was departed from Lachish.
When he peeped that Tirhakah, the Ethiopian king, was rolling up to throw hands, he sent more messengers to Hezekiah, saying,
And when he heard say of Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, Behold, he is come out to fight against thee: he sent messengers again unto Hezekiah, saying,
"This is what you gotta say to Hezekiah, king of Judah: Don’t let your God, whom you trust, fool you into thinking Jerusalem won’t get served up to the Assyrian king."
Thus shall ye speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Let not thy God in whom thou trustest deceive thee, saying, Jerusalem shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.
Yo, you know what the kings of Assyria did to all the lands? They wiped them clean. You think you’re gonna be saved?
Behold, thou hast heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands, by destroying them utterly: and shalt thou be delivered?
Did the gods of those nations save them from my fam's wreckage, like Gozan, Haran, Rezeph, and the kids of Eden in Thelasar?
Have the gods of the nations delivered them which my fathers have destroyed; {as} Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden which {were} in Thelasar?
Where are the kings though? King of Hamath, king of Arpad, and the king of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivah?
Where {is} the king of Hamath, and the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and Ivah?
Hezekiah grabbed the letter from the messengers, read it, and then went to the house of the Lord to lay it before Him.
And Hezekiah received the letter of the hand of the messengers, and read it: and Hezekiah went up into the house of the LORD, and spread it before the LORD.
Hezekiah prayed to the Lord, saying, "Yo, God of Israel, chilling between the cherubims, you’re the only God over all kingdoms; you crafted heaven and earth, no cap."
And Hezekiah prayed before the LORD, and said, O LORD God of Israel, which dwellest {between} the cherubims, thou art the God, {even} thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; thou hast made heaven and earth.
Lord, listen up, open your eyes and see: hear what Sennacherib said to diss the living God.
LORD, bow down thine ear, and hear: open, LORD, thine eyes, and see: and hear the words of Sennacherib, which hath sent him to reproach the living God.
For real, Lord, the kings of Assyria have wrecked the nations and their lands, fr.
Of a truth, LORD, the kings of Assyria have destroyed the nations and their lands,
They tossed their gods into the flames ‘cause they were just wood and stone, not real deities: that’s why they got wrecked.
And have cast their gods into the fire: for they {were} no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone: therefore they have destroyed them. {cast: Heb. given}
So now, Lord our God, I’m begging you, save us from his hand, so all the kingdoms know you’re the real deal, the one and only.
Now therefore, O LORD our God, I beseech thee, save thou us out of his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou {art} the LORD God, {even} thou only.
Then Isaiah, son of Amoz, slid into Hezekiah, saying, "The Lord God of Israel heard your prayer against Sennacherib, king of Assyria."
Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, {That} which thou hast prayed to me against Sennacherib king of Assyria I have heard.
This is what the Lord said about you; the virgin daughter of Zion is like, "LOL, bye!" and the daughter of Jerusalem is just shaking her head at you.
This {is} the word that the LORD hath spoken concerning him; The virgin the daughter of Zion hath despised thee, {and} laughed thee to scorn; the daughter of Jerusalem hath shaken her head at thee.
Who do you think you’re coming for, flexing on? You’re coming for the Holy One of Israel, no cap.
Whom hast thou reproached and blasphemed? and against whom hast thou exalted {thy} voice, and lifted up thine eyes on high? {even} against the Holy {One} of Israel.
Your messengers are out here trash-talking the Lord, saying, “With my squad of chariots, I’m gonna tear down the mountains and chop down the big trees in Lebanon.”
By thy messengers thou hast reproached the Lord, and hast said, With the multitude of my chariots I am come up to the height of the mountains, to the sides of Lebanon, and will cut down the tall cedar trees thereof, {and} the choice fir trees thereof: and I will enter into the lodgings of his borders, {and into} the forest of his Carmel. {By: Heb. By the hand of} {tall...: Heb. tallness, etc} {of his Carmel: or, and his fruitful field}
I’ve been out here sipping on some wild waters, and with my feet, I’ve dried up all the rivers in those besieged spots.
I have digged and drunk strange waters, and with the sole of my feet have I dried up all the rivers of besieged places. {besieged: or, fenced}
Didn’t you hear ages ago how I made this happen? I made it so you’d end up wrecking those fortified cities into total ruins.
Hast thou not heard long ago {how} I have done it, {and} of ancient times that I have formed it? now have I brought it to pass, that thou shouldest be to lay waste fenced cities {into} ruinous heaps. {long...: or, how I have made it long ago, and formed it of ancient times? should I now bring it to be laid waste, and fenced cities to be ruinous heaps?}
So their peeps were weak, totally shook; they were like the grass in the field, just as easy to fade as the green herbs and the corn that gets wrecked before it even sprouts.
Therefore their inhabitants were of small power, they were dismayed and confounded; they were {as} the grass of the field, and {as} the green herb, {as} the grass on the housetops, and {as corn} blasted before it be grown up. {of small...: Heb. short of hand}
But I know where you chill, when you dip out, and when you roll in, and I see your rage against me.
But I know thy abode, and thy going out, and thy coming in, and thy rage against me. {abode: or, sitting}
Since your anger and chaos have reached my ears, I’m gonna hook you up by putting a hook in your nose and a bridle in your lips, and I’ll send you back the way you came.
Because thy rage against me and thy tumult is come up into mine ears, therefore I will put my hook in thy nose, and my bridle in thy lips, and I will turn thee back by the way by which thou camest.
And here’s the deal: this year, you’ll eat whatever grows on its own, and next year, you'll get the same vibe; but in the third year, plant and reap, and enjoy the fruits.
And this {shall be} a sign unto thee, Ye shall eat this year such things as grow of themselves, and in the second year that which springeth of the same; and in the third year sow ye, and reap, and plant vineyards, and eat the fruits thereof.
And the remnant that escapes from Judah will root down deep and bear fruit that reaches up high.
And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall yet again take root downward, and bear fruit upward. {remnant...: Heb. escaping of the house of Judah that remaineth}
Outta Jerusalem, a squad will bounce, and those who dip from Mount Zion: the Lord's hype will make it happen, no cap.
For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and they that escape out of mount Zion: the zeal of the LORD {of hosts} shall do this. {they...: Heb. the escaping}
So the Lord's like, "Yo, Assyrian king, you ain't rolling up in this city, no arrows, shields, or anything sus."
Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the king of Assyria, He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it with shield, nor cast a bank against it.
He’s gonna peace out the same way he rolled in, not stepping foot in this city, periodt.
By the way that he came, by the same shall he return, and shall not come into this city, saith the LORD.
I got this city on lock, saving it for my own vibes and for my dude David, fr.
For I will defend this city, to save it, for mine own sake, and for my servant David's sake.
That night, the Lord's angel dipped out and took out 185,000 Assyrians in their camp: woke up to pure ghost town, all dead, no cap.
And it came to pass that night, that the angel of the LORD went out, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians an hundred fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they {were} all dead corpses.
So Sennacherib, king of Assyria, bounced and went back to Nineveh, chillin’.
So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and dwelt at Nineveh.
Later, while he was vibing in the house of his god Nisroch, his sons Adrammelech and Sharezer turned on him with the sword: they dipped to Armenia, and his son Esarhaddon took over, lit.
And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword: and they escaped into the land of Armenia. And Esarhaddon his son reigned in his stead. {Armenia: Heb. Ararat}
