2 Chronicles Chapter 24
So Joash was just seven years old when he kicked off his reign, ruling for a solid forty years in Jerusalem. His mom was Zibiah from Beer-sheba, no cap.
Joash {was} seven years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem. His mother's name also {was} Zibiah of Beersheba.
Joash was out here doing what was right in the Lord's eyes as long as Jehoiada the priest was in the mix, fr.
And Joash did {that which was} right in the sight of the LORD all the days of Jehoiada the priest.
Jehoiada came through with two wives for him, and he was blessed with sons and daughters, vibin' hard.
And Jehoiada took for him two wives; and he begat sons and daughters.
After a minute, Joash was like, "We gotta renovate the Lord's crib," and that was the move.
And it came to pass after this, {that} Joash was minded to repair the house of the LORD. {to repair: Heb. to renew}
He gathered up the priests and Levites, telling them to hit up the cities of Judah for some cash to fix God’s house, but the Levites were kinda sus about it.
And he gathered together the priests and the Levites, and said to them, Go out unto the cities of Judah, and gather of all Israel money to repair the house of your God from year to year, and see that ye hasten the matter. Howbeit the Levites hastened {it} not.
The king put Jehoiada on blast, asking why the Levites weren't bringing in the cash from Judah and Jerusalem like Moses said, periodt.
And the king called for Jehoiada the chief, and said unto him, Why hast thou not required of the Levites to bring in out of Judah and out of Jerusalem the collection, {according to the commandment} of Moses the servant of the LORD, and of the congregation of Israel, for the tabernacle of witness?
The sons of Athaliah, that shady queen, straight-up trashed God's house and handed over all the holy stuff to Baalim, savage.
For the sons of Athaliah, that wicked woman, had broken up the house of God; and also all the dedicated things of the house of the LORD did they bestow upon Baalim.
So the king had them craft a chest and place it outside the gate of the Lord's house, keeping it real.
And at the king's commandment they made a chest, and set it without at the gate of the house of the LORD.
They spread the word throughout Judah and Jerusalem to bring in the collection Moses set up for the Lord back in the day, no cap.
And they made a proclamation through Judah and Jerusalem, to bring in to the LORD the collection {that} Moses the servant of God {laid} upon Israel in the wilderness. {a proclamation: Heb. a voice}
Everyone was hyped and dropped their offerings into the chest until they were done, it was lit.
And all the princes and all the people rejoiced, and brought in, and cast into the chest, until they had made an end.
When the chest made its way to the king’s spot via the Levites, they peeped mad cash in there. The king’s scribe and the high priest’s dude came through, emptied it, and took it back. They did this daily, stacking the dough.
Now it came to pass, that at what time the chest was brought unto the king's office by the hand of the Levites, and when they saw that {there was} much money, the king's scribe and the high priest's officer came and emptied the chest, and took it, and carried it to his place again. Thus they did day by day, and gathered money in abundance.
The king and Jehoiada were like, “Bet, let’s dish this out to the homies working on the Lord’s house,” hiring masons and carpenters to get things sorted, plus iron and brass workers.
And the king and Jehoiada gave it to such as did the work of the service of the house of the LORD, and hired masons and carpenters to repair the house of the LORD, and also such as wrought iron and brass to mend the house of the LORD.
The crew popped off, and the job was lit; they got God’s house all fixed up and sturdy.
So the workmen wrought, and the work was perfected by them, and they set the house of God in his state, and strengthened it. {the work...: Heb. the healing went up upon the work}
Once they finished, they brought the leftover cash to the king and Jehoiada, crafting fresh stuff for the Lord’s house, like vessels for offerings and gold and silver spoons. They kept it bussin’ with burnt offerings while Jehoiada was still in the game.
And when they had finished {it}, they brought the rest of the money before the king and Jehoiada, whereof were made vessels for the house of the LORD, {even} vessels to minister, and to offer {withal}, and spoons, and vessels of gold and silver. And they offered burnt offerings in the house of the LORD continually all the days of Jehoiada. {to offer...: or, pestils}
But then Jehoiada got old and full of life and passed away; dude was 130 years deep when he died.
But Jehoiada waxed old, and was full of days when he died; an hundred and thirty years old {was he} when he died.
They laid him down in the city of David with the kings ‘cause he was a straight legend in Israel, both for God and his house.
And they buried him in the city of David among the kings, because he had done good in Israel, both toward God, and toward his house.
After Jehoiada passed, the princes of Judah rolled up and showed respect to the king, and he was all ears.
Now after the death of Jehoiada came the princes of Judah, and made obeisance to the king. Then the king hearkened unto them.
But then they bounced from the house of the Lord, serving groves and idols, and it was mad sus; wrath hit Judah and Jerusalem for that mess.
And they left the house of the LORD God of their fathers, and served groves and idols: and wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem for this their trespass.
Still, he sent prophets to pull them back to the Lord; they spoke truth, but the people were like, “Nah,” and didn’t listen.
Yet he sent prophets to them, to bring them again unto the LORD; and they testified against them: but they would not give ear.
The Spirit of God fell on Zechariah, Jehoiada’s son, who stood up in front of the crowd and said, “Yo, God’s saying, why you breaking the Lord’s commandments and not thriving? You ghosted the Lord, so He ghosted you too.”
And the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest, which stood above the people, and said unto them, Thus saith God, Why transgress ye the commandments of the LORD, that ye cannot prosper? because ye have forsaken the LORD, he hath also forsaken you. {came...: Heb. clothed}
They lowkey plotted against him and threw stones at him on the king's orders in the Lord's house. Savage vibes.
And they conspired against him, and stoned him with stones at the commandment of the king in the court of the house of the LORD.
Joash totally forgot the kindness his dad Jehoiada showed him and straight-up killed his son. When he died, he was like, "Lord, you see this, right?"
Thus Joash the king remembered not the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but slew his son. And when he died, he said, The LORD look upon {it}, and require {it}.
So, at the end of the year, Syria rolled up on him, hitting Judah and Jerusalem, wrecking all the leaders and sending the loot to the king of Damascus.
And it came to pass at the end of the year, {that} the host of Syria came up against him: and they came to Judah and Jerusalem, and destroyed all the princes of the people from among the people, and sent all the spoil of them unto the king of Damascus. {at the...: Heb. in the revolution of the year} {Damascus: Heb. Darmesek}
The Syrian squad came with a small crew, but the Lord handed them a massive army 'cause they ghosted their God. Judgment day for Joash, fr.
For the army of the Syrians came with a small company of men, and the LORD delivered a very great host into their hand, because they had forsaken the LORD God of their fathers. So they executed judgment against Joash.
After they dipped from him (he was super sick), his own crew plotted against him for Jehoiada's son and took him out in his bed. They buried him in David's city, but not with the kings.
And when they were departed from him, (for they left him in great diseases,) his own servants conspired against him for the blood of the sons of Jehoiada the priest, and slew him on his bed, and he died: and they buried him in the city of David, but they buried him not in the sepulchres of the kings.
The peeps who schemed against him were Zabad, Shimeath's son from Ammon, and Jehozabad, Shimrith's son from Moab.
And these are they that conspired against him; Zabad the son of Shimeath an Ammonitess, and Jehozabad the son of Shimrith a Moabitess. {Zabad: or, Jozacher} {Shimrith: or, Shomer}
About his sons, the heavy stuff he dealt with, and fixing up God's house, it's all in the kings' story. His son Amaziah took over.
Now {concerning} his sons, and the greatness of the burdens {laid} upon him, and the repairing of the house of God, behold, they {are} written in the story of the book of the kings. And Amaziah his son reigned in his stead. {repairing: Heb. founding} {story: or, commentary}
