2 Chronicles Chapter 12
Rehoboam straight up locked down the kingdom and started showing off, but then he dipped on the Lord’s rules, and the whole of Israel was like, “Bet.”
And it came to pass, when Rehoboam had established the kingdom, and had strengthened himself, he forsook the law of the LORD, and all Israel with him.
Fast forward to year five, and Shishak from Egypt rolled into Jerusalem ‘cause they were acting sus with the Lord.
And it came to pass, {that} in the fifth year of king Rehoboam Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, because they had transgressed against the LORD,
He pulled up with twelve hundred chariots and sixty thousand horsemen—like, Egypt’s crew was wild: the Lubims, Sukkiims, and Ethiopians.
With twelve hundred chariots, and threescore thousand horsemen: and the people {were} without number that came with him out of Egypt; the Lubims, the Sukkiims, and the Ethiopians.
He grabbed the strong cities belonging to Judah and cruised on over to Jerusalem.
And he took the fenced cities which {pertained} to Judah, and came to Jerusalem.
Then Shemaiah the prophet rolled up on Rehoboam and the Judah crew in Jerusalem, saying, “Yo, the Lord just hit me up saying you ghosted me, so I’m handing you over to Shishak.”
Then came Shemaiah the prophet to Rehoboam, and {to} the princes of Judah, that were gathered together to Jerusalem because of Shishak, and said unto them, Thus saith the LORD, Ye have forsaken me, and therefore have I also left you in the hand of Shishak.
The princes of Israel and the king were like, “We totally messed up,” acknowledging, “The Lord’s straight up righteous, no cap.”
Whereupon the princes of Israel and the king humbled themselves; and they said, The LORD {is} righteous.
When the Lord peeped them humble themselves, He reached out to Shemaiah saying, “They’re humble now; I won’t fully wreck them, but I’ll hook them up; my wrath won’t tear through Jerusalem via Shishak.”
And when the LORD saw that they humbled themselves, the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah, saying, They have humbled themselves; {therefore} I will not destroy them, but I will grant them some deliverance; and my wrath shall not be poured out upon Jerusalem by the hand of Shishak. {some: or, a little while}
Though they’ll still be his servants so they can vibe with my service and the kingdoms around them.
Nevertheless they shall be his servants; that they may know my service, and the service of the kingdoms of the countries.
So, Shishak from Egypt came at Jerusalem and swiped all the treasures from the Lord’s crib and the king’s pad; he even grabbed the gold shields that Solomon crafted.
So Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, and took away the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king's house; he took all: he carried away also the shields of gold which Solomon had made.
Instead, Rehoboam made brass shields and handed them to the chief guard at the king’s entrance.
Instead of which king Rehoboam made shields of brass, and committed {them} to the hands of the chief of the guard, that kept the entrance of the king's house.
Whenever the king went into the Lord’s crib, the guard would grab the shields and take them back to the guard chamber.
And when the king entered into the house of the LORD, the guard came and fetched them, and brought them again into the guard chamber.
After he humbled himself, the Lord chilled out on his wrath and didn’t completely wipe him out, plus things were decent in Judah.
And when he humbled himself, the wrath of the LORD turned from him, that he would not destroy {him} altogether: and also in Judah things went well. {and also...: or, and yet in Judah there were good things}
So, King Rehoboam got stronger in Jerusalem and ruled: he was 41 when he kicked things off, reigning for 17 years in the city the Lord picked from all the tribes of Israel. His mom was Naamah, an Ammonite queen.
So king Rehoboam strengthened himself in Jerusalem, and reigned: for Rehoboam {was} one and forty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the LORD had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there. And his mother's name {was} Naamah an Ammonitess.
He did some messed up stuff ‘cause he wasn’t prepping his heart to seek the Lord, fr.
And he did evil, because he prepared not his heart to seek the LORD. {prepared: or, fixed}
Now, the acts of Rehoboam, from start to finish, aren’t they in the book of Shemaiah the prophet and Iddo the seer about the family lines? There were always beefs between Rehoboam and Jeroboam.
Now the acts of Rehoboam, first and last, {are} they not written in the book of Shemaiah the prophet, and of Iddo the seer concerning genealogies? And {there were} wars between Rehoboam and Jeroboam continually. {book: Heb. words}
Rehoboam passed on and was laid to rest in David’s city; his son Abijah took over the throne.
And Rehoboam slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David: and Abijah his son reigned in his stead. {Abijah: also called, Abijam}
