1 Samuel Chapter 31
The Philistines were going all out against Israel, and the Israelites totally bombed, catching wreck on Mount Gilboa.
Now the Philistines fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa. {slain: or, wounded}
Saul and his squad were getting chased by the Philistines, who took out Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malchi-shua, Saul’s boys.
And the Philistines followed hard upon Saul and upon his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, Saul's sons.
The fight was rough for Saul, and he got hit by arrows; he was really messed up.
And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers hit him; and he was sore wounded of the archers. {and the archers: Heb. and the shooters, men with bows} {hit...: Heb. found him}
So Saul was like to his armor-bearer, "Bet, stab me with your sword so these uncircumcised folks don’t come and roast me." But his armor-bearer was hella scared and didn’t do it, so Saul just grabbed a sword and ended it.
Then said Saul unto his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword, and fell upon it. {abuse...: or, mock me}
Once the armor-bearer peeped that Saul was out, he also went for his sword and took himself out too.
And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise upon his sword, and died with him.
That same day, Saul, his three sons, his armor-bearer, and all his crew were wiped out.
So Saul died, and his three sons, and his armourbearer, and all his men, that same day together.
The Israelites on the other side of the valley and Jordan saw their crew dip and that Saul and his sons were finished, so they bounced from the towns, and the Philistines rolled in.
And when the men of Israel that {were} on the other side of the valley, and {they} that {were} on the other side Jordan, saw that the men of Israel fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook the cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.
The next day, when the Philistines came to loot the fallen, they stumbled upon Saul and his three sons down on Mount Gilboa.
And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his three sons fallen in mount Gilboa.
They beheaded him, stripped off his armor, and spread it all over Philistine territory to show off in front of their idols and people.
And they cut off his head, and stripped off his armour, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to publish {it in} the house of their idols, and among the people.
They dumped his armor at Ashtaroth's pad and nailed his body to the wall of Beth-shan.
And they put his armour in the house of Ashtaroth: and they fastened his body to the wall of Bethshan.
When the homies in Jabesh-gilead heard what the Philistines did to Saul,
And when the inhabitants of Jabeshgilead heard of that which the Philistines had done to Saul; {of that: or, concerning him that}
All the brave ones stood up, rolled all night, and took Saul and his sons' bodies off the wall of Beth-shan, then went to Jabesh and burned them.
All the valiant men arose, and went all night, and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Bethshan, and came to Jabesh, and burnt them there.
They collected their bones and laid them to rest under a tree at Jabesh, then fasted for seven days.
And they took their bones, and buried {them} under a tree at Jabesh, and fasted seven days.
