So the young Samuel was vibin' with the Lord in front of Eli. Back in the day, the word of the Lord was mad precious; no cap, there was no open vision.

Chillin' in his spot, Eli's eyes were getting all dim, so he couldn't see, for real.

Before the lamp of God went out in the temple where the ark was kept, Samuel was just trying to catch some Z's.

God literally called out to Samuel, and he was like, "Here am I."

Samuel bolted to Eli and said, "Yo, here I am; you called me?" Eli was like, "Nah, hit the hay again." So, he went back and laid down.

And he ran unto Eli, and said, Here {am} I; for thou calledst me. And he said, I called not; lie down again. And he went and lay down.

The Lord hit up Samuel again, and he got up and went to Eli, saying, "Here am I; you called me?" Eli responded, "I didn't call you, my dude; just lay down again."

The Lord called Samuel for a third time. He got up, went to Eli, and said, "Here am I; you called me?" Eli caught on that the Lord was trying to reach out to the kid.

Eli then told Samuel, "Go back and lay down; if he calls you again, say, 'Speak, Lord; your servant is listening.'" Samuel returned and laid down.
