1 Samuel Chapter 24
So, Saul returned from hunting the Philistines, and someone hit him up, "Yo, David's hanging in the En-gedi wilderness."
And it came to pass, when Saul was returned from following the Philistines, that it was told him, saying, Behold, David {is} in the wilderness of Engedi. {following: Heb. after}
Saul then took three thousand of the top homies from Israel and set out to track down David and his squad on the cliffs.
Then Saul took three thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and went to seek David and his men upon the rocks of the wild goats.
He arrived at the sheep pens, spotted a cave, and went in to chill for a sec, while David and his crew were lurking in the shadows of the cave.
And he came to the sheepcotes by the way, where {was} a cave; and Saul went in to cover his feet: and David and his men remained in the sides of the cave.
David’s squad was like, "Ayo, today's the day the Lord said He’d drop your enemy into your hands, do your thing." So David got up and quietly snipped a piece of Saul’s robe.
And the men of David said unto him, Behold the day of which the LORD said unto thee, Behold, I will deliver thine enemy into thine hand, that thou mayest do to him as it shall seem good unto thee. Then David arose, and cut off the skirt of Saul's robe privily. {Saul's...: Heb. the robe which was Saul's}
But afterwards, David felt a bit bad for slicing Saul’s robe.
And it came to pass afterward, that David's heart smote him, because he had cut off Saul's skirt.
He straight up told his boys, "No cap, I can’t do this to my master, the Lord’s chosen one, like, he’s the anointed guy."
And he said unto his men, The LORD forbid that I should do this thing unto my master, the LORD'S anointed, to stretch forth mine hand against him, seeing he {is} the anointed of the LORD.
David kept his crew calm with those words, so they didn’t pounce on Saul. But Saul came out of the cave and kept it moving.
So David stayed his servants with these words, and suffered them not to rise against Saul. But Saul rose up out of the cave, and went on {his} way. {stayed: Heb. cut off}
David then popped outta the cave and shouted after Saul, "My lord, the king!" When Saul turned, David hit the ground in respect.
David also arose afterward, and went out of the cave, and cried after Saul, saying, My lord the king. And when Saul looked behind him, David stooped with his face to the earth, and bowed himself.
David asked Saul, "Why you listening to the rumors that I’m after you?"
And David said to Saul, Wherefore hearest thou men's words, saying, Behold, David seeketh thy hurt?
"Look, today your eyes saw that the Lord put you in my reach in the cave; some peeps wanted me to get rid of you, but I didn’t. I said, 'Nah, can’t touch my lord, he’s the Lord’s pick.'"
Behold, this day thine eyes have seen how that the LORD had delivered thee to day into mine hand in the cave: and {some} bade {me} kill thee: but {mine eye} spared thee; and I said, I will not put forth mine hand against my lord; for he {is} the LORD'S anointed.
"Plus, fam, check it, I got your robe piece right here; I didn’t take you out, so know there’s no bad vibes from me, and I haven’t sinned against you; yet you’re still trying to take me down."
Moreover, my father, see, yea, see the skirt of thy robe in my hand: for in that I cut off the skirt of thy robe, and killed thee not, know thou and see that {there is} neither evil nor transgression in mine hand, and I have not sinned against thee; yet thou huntest my soul to take it.
"The Lord’s gonna judge between us, and He’ll deal with me, but I won’t lay a hand on you."
The LORD judge between me and thee, and the LORD avenge me of thee: but mine hand shall not be upon thee.
"As the wise say, evil comes from evil people, but I’m not gonna be that."
As saith the proverb of the ancients, Wickedness proceedeth from the wicked: but mine hand shall not be upon thee.
"Who’s the king of Israel going after? A dead dog? A flea?"
After whom is the king of Israel come out? after whom dost thou pursue? after a dead dog, after a flea.
"So let the Lord be the judge, see what’s good, plead my case, and save me from your hands."
The LORD therefore be judge, and judge between me and thee, and see, and plead my cause, and deliver me out of thine hand. {deliver: Heb. judge}
"When David wrapped up his speech, Saul was like, 'Is that you, my son David?' And then Saul started tearing up."
And it came to pass, when David had made an end of speaking these words unto Saul, that Saul said, {Is} this thy voice, my son David? And Saul lifted up his voice, and wept.
"He said to David, 'You’re more righteous than me; you’ve treated me well, while I’ve messed you up.'"
And he said to David, Thou {art} more righteous than I: for thou hast rewarded me good, whereas I have rewarded thee evil.
"You showed today how you’ve treated me; when the Lord put me in your reach, you didn’t take me out."
And thou hast shewed this day how that thou hast dealt well with me: forasmuch as when the LORD had delivered me into thine hand, thou killedst me not. {delivered: Heb. shut up}
"Like, if someone finds their enemy, are they gonna let them go? So the Lord bless you for what you did for me today."
For if a man find his enemy, will he let him go well away? wherefore the LORD reward thee good for that thou hast done unto me this day.
"And now, for real, I know you’re gonna be king, and Israel’s kingdom will be yours."
And now, behold, I know well that thou shalt surely be king, and that the kingdom of Israel shall be established in thine hand.
"So swear to me by the Lord you won’t wipe out my fam after me, and you won’t erase my name from my dad’s house."
Swear now therefore unto me by the LORD, that thou wilt not cut off my seed after me, and that thou wilt not destroy my name out of my father's house.
"David made a promise to Saul. Then Saul went home, but David and his crew headed back to their hideout.
And David sware unto Saul. And Saul went home; but David and his men gat them up unto the hold.
