1 Samuel Chapter 1
So there was this guy Elkanah from Ramathaim–zophim, chillin' in Ephraim, son of Jeroham, Elihu, Tohu, and Zuph. Total vibe check.
Now there was a certain man of Ramathaimzophim, of mount Ephraim, and his name {was} Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephrathite:
He had two wifeys, right? One was Hannah and the other was Peninnah. Peninnah was popping out kids, but Hannah was dry, no cap.
And he had two wives; the name of the one {was} Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah: and Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.
Every year, my dude would roll up to Shiloh to worship and make sacrifices to the Lord of hosts. Eli's sons, Hophni and Phinehas, were keeping it lit there too.
And this man went up out of his city yearly to worship and to sacrifice unto the LORD of hosts in Shiloh. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, the priests of the LORD, {were} there. {yearly: Heb. from year to year}
When it came time to offer, Elkanah gave Peninnah and her kids their portions, like, "Here ya go."
And when the time was that Elkanah offered, he gave to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions:
But for Hannah, he hooked her up with a dope portion 'cause he loved her, even though the Lord had her womb on lockdown.
But unto Hannah he gave a worthy portion; for he loved Hannah: but the LORD had shut up her womb. {worthy: or, double}
Her rival kept coming at her relentless, stressing her out ‘cause the Lord had her womb on lock, like, so sus.
And her adversary also provoked her sore, for to make her fret, because the LORD had shut up her womb. {provoked: Heb. angered}
Year after year, when she hit up the Lord's house, the rival would provoke her, so she cried and couldn't eat, savage.
And {as} he did so year by year, when she went up to the house of the LORD, so she provoked her; therefore she wept, and did not eat. {when...: or, from the time that she, etc: Heb. from her going up}
Elkanah was like, "Why you crying? Why you not eating? Am I not better than ten sons, fr?"
Then said Elkanah her husband to her, Hannah, why weepest thou? and why eatest thou not? and why is thy heart grieved? {am} not I better to thee than ten sons?
After they ate and drank in Shiloh, Hannah got up, and Eli the priest was just chilling by a post in the temple, vibing.
So Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk. Now Eli the priest sat upon a seat by a post of the temple of the LORD.
Feeling all heavy in her soul, she prayed to the Lord and cried hard, no cap.
And she {was} in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the LORD, and wept sore. {in...: Heb. bitter of soul}
She made a promise and was like, "Yo, Lord of hosts, if you see my struggle and remember me, don’t ghost me, but bless me with a son, I’ll give him to you for life, and no razor’s touching his head, periodt."
And she vowed a vow, and said, O LORD of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the LORD all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head. {a man...: Heb. seed of men}
So while she was praying hard, Eli peeped her lips moving.
And it came to pass, as she continued praying before the LORD, that Eli marked her mouth. {continued...: Heb. multiplied to pray}
Hannah was just vibing in her heart; her lips were moving but no sound came out, so Eli thought she was lit and drunk.
Now Hannah, she spake in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard: therefore Eli thought she had been drunken.
Eli was like, "How long you gonna be lit? Put down that wine, fam."
And Eli said unto her, How long wilt thou be drunken? put away thy wine from thee.
Hannah replied, "No cap, my dude, I’m just a sad soul: I haven’t had any wine or strong drink, just pouring my heart out to the Lord."
And Hannah answered and said, No, my lord, I {am} a woman of a sorrowful spirit: I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but have poured out my soul before the LORD. {of a sorrowful...: Heb. hard of spirit}
"Don’t think I’m a total mess; I’m just speaking from my pain and grief."
Count not thine handmaid for a daughter of Belial: for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief have I spoken hitherto. {complaint: or, meditation}
Eli said, "Bet, go in peace, and may the God of Israel grant what you asked for."
Then Eli answered and said, Go in peace: and the God of Israel grant {thee} thy petition that thou hast asked of him.
She said, "Let your girl find favor with you." Then she bounced, ate, and her vibe shifted to no longer sad.
And she said, Let thine handmaid find grace in thy sight. So the woman went her way, and did eat, and her countenance was no more {sad}.
They woke up early, worshipped the Lord, then headed back home to Ramah; Elkanah knew Hannah, and the Lord was like, "I got you."
And they rose up in the morning early, and worshipped before the LORD, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah: and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and the LORD remembered her.
Eventually, when the moment hit, Hannah had a son and named him Samuel, saying, "I asked the Lord for him, and He delivered, fr."
Wherefore it came to pass, when the time was come about after Hannah had conceived, that she bare a son, and called his name Samuel, {saying}, Because I have asked him of the LORD. {when...: Heb. in revolution of days} {Samuel: that is, Asked of God}
Elkanah and his whole crew rolled up to flex on the Lord with their yearly sacrifice, no cap.
And the man Elkanah, and all his house, went up to offer unto the LORD the yearly sacrifice, and his vow.
But Hannah was like, "Nah, I'm chillin' until the kid's weaned. Then I'll bring him to vibe with the Lord forever."
But Hannah went not up; for she said unto her husband, {I will not go up} until the child be weaned, and {then} I will bring him, that he may appear before the LORD, and there abide for ever.
Elkanah told her, "Do what you gotta do, just make sure the Lord's got your back." So she stayed and fed her son until he was ready.
And Elkanah her husband said unto her, Do what seemeth thee good; tarry until thou have weaned him; only the LORD establish his word. So the woman abode, and gave her son suck until she weaned him.
Once she weaned him, she took him with three bulls, some flour, and a bottle of wine to the Lord's crib in Shiloh, and the kid was still young.
And when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bullocks, and one ephah of flour, and a bottle of wine, and brought him unto the house of the LORD in Shiloh: and the child {was} young.
They straight up killed a bull and brought the kid to Eli.
And they slew a bullock, and brought the child to Eli.
She said, "Yo, my lord, as you live, I’m the woman who was here praying to the Lord."
And she said, Oh my lord, {as} thy soul liveth, my lord, I {am} the woman that stood by thee here, praying unto the LORD.
"For this kid, I prayed, and the Lord totally came through with my request."
For this child I prayed; and the LORD hath given me my petition which I asked of him:
"So I'm giving him back to the Lord; he’s on loan for life. And he worshipped the Lord there, periodt."
Therefore also I have lent him to the LORD; as long as he liveth he shall be lent to the LORD. And he worshipped the LORD there. {lent him: or, returned him, whom I have obtained by petition} {he shall...: or, he whom I have obtained by petition shall be returned}
