1 Kings Chapter 19
Ahab hit up Jezebel and spilled the tea about all that Elijah was up to, including straight-up taking out all the prophets with a sword.
And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and withal how he had slain all the prophets with the sword.
Jezebel fired off a message to Elijah, saying, "If the gods don’t do worse to me, I’m gonna make your life as crazy as one of those prophets by tomorrow."
Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do {to me}, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to morrow about this time.
When he peeped that, he bounced for his life and made his way to Beer-sheba, which is part of Judah, leaving his homie there.
And when he saw {that}, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beersheba, which {belongeth} to Judah, and left his servant there.
But he went even deeper into the wilderness, found a juniper tree, and just crashed under it, saying, "I’m done, Lord; take me out. I ain’t better than my fam."
But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I {am} not better than my fathers. {for himself: Heb. for his life}
While he was chilling and napping under the tree, an angel showed up, touched him, and said, "Wake up and eat."
And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise {and} eat.
He peeped around and saw a cake cooking on some coals and a jug of water chilling next to him. He ate, drank, and conked out again.
And he looked, and, behold, {there was} a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again. {head: Heb. bolster}
The angel of the Lord came back again, touched him, and said, "Get up and eat; you’ve got a hefty journey ahead."
And the angel of the LORD came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise {and} eat; because the journey {is} too great for thee.
He got up, munched, drank, and vibed on that strength for forty days and nights to Horeb, the mountain of God.
And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.
He arrived at a cave and crashed there; then the word of the Lord came to him, asking, "What are you up to here, Elijah?"
And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of the LORD {came} to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah?
He said, "I’m super jealous for the Lord of hosts because the Israelites dipped on your covenant, wrecked your altars, and took out your prophets; I’m the only one left, and they wanna take me out."
And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, {even} I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.
God was like, "Step out and stand on the mountain." Then the Lord passed by, and a fierce wind smashed the mountains and shattered rocks, but the Lord wasn’t in the wind; after that, an earthquake hit, but the Lord wasn’t in that either.
And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; {but} the LORD {was} not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; {but} the LORD {was} not in the earthquake:
After the earthquake, there was a fire, but the Lord wasn’t in the fire; then came a chill, quiet voice.
And after the earthquake a fire; {but} the LORD {was} not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.
When Elijah heard it, he covered his face with his cloak and stepped out to the cave entrance. Then a voice asked him, "What are you doing here, Elijah?"
And it was {so}, when Elijah heard {it}, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, {there came} a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?
He answered, "I’m super jealous for the Lord of hosts, 'cause the Israelites ditched your covenant, wrecked your altars, and took out your prophets; I’m the only one left, and they wanna take me out."
And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: because the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, {even} I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.
The Lord told him, "Make your way back to the wilderness of Damascus, and when you get there, anoint Hazael as king over Syria."
And the LORD said unto him, Go, return on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus: and when thou comest, anoint Hazael {to be} king over Syria:
Also anoint Jehu, son of Nimshi, as king over Israel, and Elisha, son of Shaphat from Abel-meholah, as the prophet in your place.
And Jehu the son of Nimshi shalt thou anoint {to be} king over Israel: and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abelmeholah shalt thou anoint {to be} prophet in thy room. {Elisha: Gr. Eliseus}
Anyone who dodges Hazael’s sword, Jehu will take out; and whoever escapes Jehu’s sword, Elisha will slay.
And it shall come to pass, {that} him that escapeth the sword of Hazael shall Jehu slay: and him that escapeth from the sword of Jehu shall Elisha slay.
But I’ve got seven thousand left in Israel who haven’t bowed to Baal or given him any love.
Yet I have left {me} seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him. {I have...: or, I will leave}
So he left and found Elisha, son of Shaphat, plowing with twelve oxen; he was working with the twelfth. Elijah passed by and tossed his cloak on him.
So he departed thence, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who {was} plowing {with} twelve yoke {of oxen} before him, and he with the twelfth: and Elijah passed by him, and cast his mantle upon him.
Elisha ditched the oxen and ran after Elijah, saying, "Let me say bye to my parents first, then I’ll roll with you." Elijah said, "Go back; what have I done to you?"
And he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said, Let me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother, and {then} I will follow thee. And he said unto him, Go back again: for what have I done to thee? {Go...: Heb. Go return}
Elisha went back, took a yoke of oxen, killed them, cooked the meat with the gear, and fed the people. Then he got up and followed Elijah, serving him.
And he returned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen, and slew them, and boiled their flesh with the instruments of the oxen, and gave unto the people, and they did eat. Then he arose, and went after Elijah, and ministered unto him.
