1 Kings Chapter 17
So Elijah the Tishbite, repping Gilead, straight up told Ahab, “The Lord God of Israel is alive, and for years, no dew or rain is dropping, just off my word, no cap.”
And Elijah the Tishbite, {who was} of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, {As} the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word. {Elijah: Heb. Elijahu: Gr. Elias}
Then the Lord hit him up, saying,
And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying,
“Bounce outta here, head east, and chill by the brook Cherith, near Jordan.”
Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that {is} before Jordan.
“You’ll sip from the brook; I got the ravens on the delivery squad to hook you up with food there.”
And it shall be, {that} thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.
So he dipped and did what the Lord told him, vibing by the brook Cherith, near Jordan.
So he went and did according unto the word of the LORD: for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that {is} before Jordan.
The ravens dropped him bread and meat in the morning and evening; he was just vibing with the brook.
And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.
After a minute, the brook ran dry, 'cause there was no rain in the land, fr.
And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land. {after...: Heb. at the end of days}
Then the Lord hit him up again, saying,
And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying,
“Rise up, head to Zarephath in Zidon, and chill there; I got a widow there ready to take care of you.”
Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which {belongeth} to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee. {Zarephath: Gr. Sarepta}
So he got up and went to Zarephath. When he rolled up to the city gate, the widow was gathering sticks, and he called out, “Yo, can you fetch me some water in a vessel? I’m parched.”
So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman {was} there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.
As she went to grab it, he said, “Also, could you snag me a piece of bread?”
And as she was going to fetch {it}, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand.
She replied, “As the Lord your God is alive, I don’t have any cake, just a handful of flour in a barrel and a little oil in a jar. I’m just picking up sticks to whip up one last meal for me and my son, then we’re done.”
And she said, {As} the LORD thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I {am} gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.
Elijah said, “No cap, chill; go do what you said, but first make me a small cake, then whip up some for you and your son.”
And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go {and} do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring {it} unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.
“For the Lord God of Israel says, the flour won't run out, and the oil won't fail until He sends rain on the earth.”
For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day {that} the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth. {sendeth: Heb. giveth}
She went and followed Elijah's instructions; her, him, and her household feasted for many days.
And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat {many} days. {many...: or, a full year}
The flour didn't waste away, and the oil didn't fail, just as the Lord said through Elijah.
{And} the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by Elijah. {by: Heb. by the hand of}
After all of that, the widow's son got seriously sick, like, no breath in him at all, periodt.
And it came to pass after these things, {that} the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so sore, that there was no breath left in him.
She said to Elijah, “What’s good with you, man of God? Did you come to remind me of my sins and take my son away?”
And she said unto Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? art thou come unto me to call my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son?
He replied, “Hand me your son.” He took him from her arms and carried him up to a loft, laying him on his own bed.
And he said unto her, Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into a loft, where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed.
He cried out to the Lord, “O Lord my God, did you bring trouble on this widow I’m staying with by taking her son?”
And he cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, hast thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son?
He stretched out on the child three times, crying to the Lord, “O Lord my God, please let this kid’s soul return.”
And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, I pray thee, let this child's soul come into him again. {stretched: Heb. measured} {into...: Heb. into his inward parts}
The Lord heard Elijah’s call; the child's soul came back, and he was alive, lit.
And the LORD heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.
Elijah took the child and brought him down to the house, handed him back to his mom, and said, “Look, your son is alive!”
And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the house, and delivered him unto his mother: and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth.
The woman said to Elijah, “Now I know you’re a man of God, and the Lord’s word in your mouth is the truth.”
And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this I know that thou {art} a man of God, {and} that the word of the LORD in thy mouth {is} truth.
